    Hi,
I am new to this farming crack and was wondering as I do not have the facility to dip my sheep in the conventional way {submersion} Are the
methods of applying to the back of the sheep {e.g Click} as effective
and do this have to be applied summer and winter, thanks

We have 20 ewes. Its not worth my while cleaning out the tank, filling it and setting up the yard for that number. I put them in a tight pen. Mix a 40 gallon barrel of water snd sheep dip and apply it over them with the power washer on very low power. Just as effective as dipping them in my experience!!

yes Clik is extremely effective (just back from doing the store lambs on the out farm) against blow fly. doesn't cover scab though.

    Click gives 16 weeks cover

Do you give them anything in advance for scab or just wait till you see signs of it? What would be a sign you have a problem with scab?
Just sprayed with Clik as well, so hope that's done for the year, blowfly shouldn't be a problem in october, or would it?

depends on the weather in october. seen some of the worst cases of maggots in a mild october. they seem to get bad quick at that time of the year

I had a ewe with a lot of maggots on her tail today... I already went through a litre of Cyper guard at €60.. This was only to treat six sheep. So I opted for a gallon of jeyes fluid at €40.

Is jeyes fluid effective for treating maggots in sheep?

    Ta dkman

Don't know about jeyes fluid but putting a litre of cyberguard on six sheep sounds dangerous..... to do them with vector/vetrazin would only cost around 1 euro/ewe and I think you can get one that treats and protects for 3 or 4 weeks. I use clik myself in the summer, dearer but works for 16 weeks,
I use osmonds ecofleece for dipping, I put 600ml in a 1000 litres water in the dipping tank, hence my concern at putting one litre on 6 sheep

I don't think jeyes fluid is allowed for treating maggots.

I also don't think it's very good. Maggots will try together away from it, but it won't kill them. It also won't kill fly strike which hasn't hatched. So you could treat today, and have a prob again tomorrow or day after.

I would get more dip, but maybe watch the dosage / usage of it as rancher suggested

Admittedly it's been around 15 years since I treated maggots in sheep but Jeyes fluid used to work a treat from what I remember.
Love the smell of the stuff aswell:D
