I got some fulcrum racing zeros recently but I have a bit of deep dish envy.Would I find any advantage with some aero type wheels like cosmic carbones etc. Most of my cycling is 70 to 100k averaging 33kph on my own, taking in some rolling terrain(co clare).Cheers.

Is your aim to race, or to go faster, or just get fitter?

They will certainly help with the first. There are cheaper ways to improve the second (such as aero bars), and they are of no practical use in respect of the third

If it's simply a matter of splashing out on the bling, then yes, go for it - no futher justification needed

What you got is more than enough. Zero's are no slouch in the wheel stakes, you might be better off spending money on getting a proper riding position setup or better still join a cycling club which would generally improve fitness and speed.

I'd stick with the Zeros, lovely wheels and neither the terrain or your speed are going to do much for aero wheels.

That extra rim depth adds weight, in the case of Cosmics it's a lot of weight over the zeros. I wouldn't bother.

If it's because you think the bike looks ugly when you stare across a crowded room at it, you could make some kind of vanity rims out of black cardboard. A wonderbra for your bike. Like this, but black:

Very fast wheels might make you 0.5kph faster.

Don't listen to them. Deep section wheels make an immeasurable :pac: difference. I find with my Zipps, once I get her to 50kph I can pretty much stop pedalling.

Thanks for all the replies and the picture of the DIY wheel, black tape would look better-set off the reflector with the contrast.I might do some local races and have done a bike fit and gone out with the local club.Just thought that a more aero wheel would help when battling the wind on my own.Beasty, how would they help whilst racing? There is also that these wheels do look better than regular wheels.

Everybody seems to be riding deep wheels these days esp at the races but there are always the guys who do really well without. That's where you want to be.

It's hardly surprising. Wheels make about 2% difference but the difference in power output between the slowest and fastest riders in each cat is probably more like 25%.
