Rear Disc & handbrake

Changed pads all round recently and followed online instructions and videos to the letter (its been a long time since I did diy mechanics :)).
Satisfied with result at first but then I got an intermittent rubbing noise from rear left. Car is convertible and I doubt you'd even hear it in a saloon. Both Rear wheels are hot to touch after long drive - but not too hot to hold your hand on them. I am assuming this is a handbrake adjustment problem but instructions for my car say its automatically adjusted and I should just pull handbrake and release in sharp succesion. This hasn't worked. If I tap brake pedal noise goes away but comes back even when no braking has taken place.Noise only comes after aprox 2 miles driving and is never there on start up. Noise is a high pitched rubbing sound, if that helps.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

Had the same and it got worse - in my case it was seized caliper.
Maybe they just need to bed in properly? Is the pad rubbing against disc?
Have a look if caliper is coming back properly when brake is released.

Remember that it might have nothing to do with handbrake operation itself.

Better sort it soon, my discs were rubbish before i managed to replace faulty caliper.

OK, got to the bottom of this.

third time taking them off and noticed Brake pad material separating from the steel backing plate. It then split at the centre channel and literally came apart in my hand. Rep is coming out to Motor factors tomorrow to inspect. Can't think why this would happen other than a fault in manufacture.

Didn't see this coming...even if it overheated, it shouldn't happen that fast?
I had to change brakes twice due to overheating (caused by faulty calipers and heavy drive through the hills...), but in both cases nothing like this happened...
Some mechanics in here may come up with some explanation???

Good luck with motor factors, hope they get to the bottom of the problem.
