Hi, Is there a way to tell if a drain is connected to the stormdrain underground. My down pipe flows into a drain. How do i know that this drain is connected to a strom drain and not just seeping water into the sourrounding ground. There is always some residual water in the drain like there is a ubend. If i pour water down it it does not back up.

if you can gain access to a storm manhole where you think the connection is with your system, then what i would do is pour a bucket of dyed water down a gully and see if it flows through the public system

Do you live in a town(estate) or rural one off house?
If estate it will be to some form of surface or combined system.
If rural, you will be running to a soakpit. Not to foul water drain though....
If when you pour water into the gully and its not backing up, what exactly is the issue?

I am just seeing some of the asphalt around the drain crack and buckle. Not sure if water is escaping the drain and seeping out. The drain is right beside the main wall.

Chances are, as you describe it, it is poor quality blacktop. Is it old/new house?
These fittings are click-fit so unlikely to be the piping that failed.
Tarmac does, depending on quality and traffic, eventually fail to some degree, in most cases.
If you can do as Syd said above and pour dyed water down and wait at an AJ, that will give you peace of mind that it's not the piping....
If it is the tar and it is only starting, I would advise that you score it full depth now, hence stopping the possible spread of cracking.

You could try a camera survey from dyno*** or anyone else - cost me €220ish, 2 years ago for a garden drain in Dublin area - I'd problems with my house backing up - turned out there was a manhole blocked in garden but there was no manhole cover visible from top - it had been covered over with planting
