    +1

The 13th at DG is my favourite hole of any course. I've requested my ashes to be scattered on the fairway there when I go.

Have seen it on teetimes.ie for €37 if you're prepared to tee off after 4pm at the weekend.

Going to try and make it some weekend soon myself.

Wow, excellent value, tks for that, will check it out. Haven't played it in a while

12th for me. 13th results in a 6 or worse about 7 times out of ten for me unfortunately.

One of the best holes in Ireland indeed, but it will break your heart unless you hit two perfect shots.

Absolutely, I've played it badly more times than I've played it well. Never birdied it. But I love it

Booked in to play Druids Glen in the morning and Druids Heath in the afternoon for Tuesday next week.
Will I be wrecked? My battery will be so I'll probably have to rent an electric trolley for the Heath course.
Please let the weather be good!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 308 ✭✭Seves Three Iron

You will be wrecked but you will be a happy man! Personally, I love the Heath. Won a comp there a few years back and got a prize of a fourball for the Glen. Played it a few times with the voucher but always go back to the Heath whenever a chance comes up. Just a great course. Always surprised how it divides opinion.

Thanks, I have a Golf Glider but it won't be able for both rounds so I'll use it for the morning round in the glen and then book an electric trolley (€15) for the heath in the afternoon. Two hour drive to get there so I'll be in some shape on the back 9 of the Heath I presume, is it hilly at all?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,733 ✭✭✭SnowDrifts

Druids Heath is not really hilly but it is long. I am normally the last person to recommend a buggy but I think your the ideal candidate. Enjoy the walk and scenery of the Glen in the morning and rest the tired legs by getting a buggy in the afternoon.

The greens on both (I think) have been over seeded this morning. So they will have those lines on all. Not a big deal but good ammunition when asking for a reduced rate for buggy hire.

Beauty of a course!! Love the 13th myself! Always seem to mess up the 12th though, i think its a mental thing cos im too busy admiring it haha

I'm playing Druid's Glen on Sunday and can't wait. The only time i was ever there was when i was watching Sergio winning his Irish Open. My grandad's 10yr anniversary memorial tournament so would really like to win it but i'll more than likely be beaten by the higher handicap bandits in the family:D

Heard it's still in great condition as I expected so just can't wait to get to that 1st tee already and hopefully do the course justice!

Playing these bad boys tomorrow, have had a look and can't find a course/hole by hole synopsis which is available for a lot of courses these days.
Don't suppose anyone has a link to a stroke saver/hole by hole overview type page that I can go through??

There is a decent guide for the glen on here, course guide thread. Think it's under the stickys

Great day today, windy but sunny and most importantly it never rained. The views and layout of Druids Glen is sublime, could have played better but the course was tough off the back whites and it was my first time so not too concerned. Short drive to Druids Heath and after some grub back for more of the same, a lot windier and very much a links style so quite different to the morning round, played a bit better with 30 points which I was happy with given I played it for the first time and the wind with lightening greens.
In about an hour and wrecked, off to the scratcher. We really do have some world class courses, oh, not a sinner to be seen on either course!!

anyone play this course recently ? In good nic ? Any pointers ?

Played it last Wednesday. In great nick.

Played at the weekend. The first couple of greens are a bit slower, then they speed up.

If you play off the Green tees then you won't be needing too many Drivers.

Massive enjoyment will be had no matter what - always a special place.

Why would you go to a top championship course in the heights of summer and cut the course short by playing from the green tees? White tees all the way.

Have only played the course once last May and it was class both in terms of layout and condition. Probably my favorite course so far but of the top parkland courses have yet to play Mount Juliet and Adare.

I was playing with a couple of clients, one of whom has only played 1 game in the past 2 years. He also suggested a handicap of 27 so I expected that he might lose every ball in the bag off the Whites.

I've played it loads anyway so didn't mind and it's plenty tough no matter what you're playing off the tees (although I did hit two of the par 5s in 2 which was a first).

I love Druids Glen but I agree with the chap who prefers to play the Heath (in the Summer with a bit of roll).

This is a minority opinion, I hear a lot of people moaning about the Heath.

Played Druid's Glen today - unreal course. I never imagined I'd find one better than Mount Juilet - but I think I have.

Maybe hard to judge in winter conditions - course was flooded Friday and bunkers in a mess. But course has done very well to recover so quick.

Played poor enough, again - +13 for first 12 then got it together and was level for last 6. So nice to get something going (as was with a scratch player).

So many great holes - 3,4,7,8,9,12,13,14,15,17,18.

Very few course have so many great holes , great shape and variation to the course - so many 6-7 irons into par 4s - nice change to drive and wedge golf.

The trees are stunning and you feel away from it all - you only see the road at 4 and 5 , you feel you have your own space - a bit like Palmerstown Stud in that way.

So , will go back and see it in full bloom in summer - maybe people would argue that 55 is too much for ANY round of golf - and in the winter too , they may have even more complaint.

Played whites as was with a scratch golfer from US - I think it would be too tough from whites for most golfers - on 13 for example it was a driver and hybrid - mad stuff a par 4.

Par 3 17 was everything I had on a 5 iron into wind - last hole is too hard. So if I was playing with friends again - I'd play greens.

So - back to the clinic on short game - has fallen apart. The only thing about going to the great courses - you want you A game when there. Most of them are very long and hard. But a great day at the other office.

I ballooned the drive, so - was well back - Got a 5. The lad I was playing with jumped out of lip for a missed birdie - must be a very rare thing on that hole to get a Birdie I said to him.

The only thing ForeRight - there is no even lay up option

Yeah, its a superb course Fixde, my only gripe is that the par 5's let it down and place it behind Adare and Mount Juliet because they are weak in comparison. The par 3's are the best in the country and the par 4's are there abouts also, 13 is spectacular and an extremely tough hole but also extremely easy on the eye. One of my favourite irish parklands (after Adare)

Depressing reading (;) ). 6 or 7 into greens instead of wedge ?
Drive and a hybrid into par 4 ?

This is the norm for a lot of us Fixy. It sounds like short game is defo where you need to work :D

    @ alx -

Don't even go there - having nightmares about it - totally deserted me.

I'm feeling Padraig's space every day.

Going to go to a lad at GUI over winter - if not -it could actually make me go even more mental - or drive me to drink.

So will be a new man May 2014 - we always have plans.
