Maynooth to Mullingar Commute

Is it possible for regular users of the M4 to get a discount using the eflow tag or does it cost EUR2.80 per journey not matter what?

I am considering commuting to Mullingar from Maynooth for work and want to see how much it will cost.


Also, what's the traffic/journey time like if I avoid the toll?

I considered public transport but there's not a lot to pick from.

What's the traffic like on that ? According to the Aa it will take 1h05 to get down to Mullingar from Maynooth. I drove tr motorway yesterday and it took me 35m.

The majority has moved to the motorway. I can do Leixlip to Mullingar in 45/50 mins on the old road between Kilcock and the fasr side of Kinnegad.

You do know there is also a train service and regular Bus Eireann services, both taking 45/50 mins?

Thanks. I need to get to Marlinstown business park which, according to Google Maps, is a 35 minutes walk from the town. That rules out public transport.

The old N4 is grand, no problems with it. Traffic moves around 55mph at peak hours.

12 minute cycle from Mullingar station. Buy a junker that you can leave overnight or get a folding bike. Alternatively Bus Éireann route 115 will get you from Austin Friars Street, Mullingar to Marlinstown, but you'd need to check the real time information. http://www.buseireann.ie/pdf/1290185007-115.pdf

The same Bus Éireann route 115 in the other direction will get you from Maynooth (67A Terminus) depart 0834 to Mullingar (Castle St) arrives 0920.

If you're going to drive, defo avoid the toll because you're going against the peak flow on the old road, i.e. you're going West in the morning and East in the evening.

Just to add: I think your workplace (Marlinstown Office Park?) is better than half a kilometre closer to the train station than Point B on your route, which is a rural laneway through farmland. Which I kinda figured since I drive by that way now and then and I know there's f. all along the N52 bypass until you get to the hotel.

Google Maps estimates train station - M.O.P. to be 3.3 km that's about 2 miles, you could walk that, or indeed cycle it.

If you're taking the Intercity trains, they have bike racks, again, against the peak these are not likely to be heavily contested, you could take the train carry your bike and cycle.
