I heard that Julia Ross Recruitment was quite reliable. I don't have experience of it though.

practically every recruitment agency will have a temp jobs element. If I were you I would be registering with pretty much every recruiter to increase my chances of a temp assignment. Most agencies will have a core list of temps they consider their A-list and these people will get more work than others, because the agency know they can rely on them and they will present a good impression of the agency. Whilst all agencies will be happy to list you for temp work, unless you get on their core list you won't get a lot of work.

As you know, the temp sector is really competitive out there - the days of almost all companies getting temps in for holiday or sick cover are gone, so temp work isn't as easy to find as it once was. The people who get relatively regular work and get on that 'core' list, are the ones with great experience, who have experience in various different industries or solid previous temping experience (as in you can fit into any business at short notice - not just someone who has worked in a specific type of office environment, this is a sector where variety on your CV is a really good thing!) and who is really flexible, willing to travel (preferably with own transport), willing to work at short notice etc. Skills like busy switchboard experience and dictaphone typing are definite plus, so if you don't already have those skills, perhaps it would be worth even doing some online courses for them.
