I just found out that I came 4th in this months round of Amateur Photographer of the Year competition (run by Amatuer Photographer Magazine - the oldest photography magazine in the world). The theme was "At Dawn and Dusk - Landscapes".

It was just outside the prizes but it made my day! Sorry if it sounds like blowing my own trumpet (it is - but I can't help it)

If you click on the photo and then on "more properties" on the landing page you will get the full exif data.

I used CS5 for processing. Most of the changes were in camera Raw with a subsequent crop in Photoshop. Oh, and I cloned out a few parked cars and people - did you ever see Bull Island with only one person on it!

But the basic shot is as captured, in camera.

Actually I have, and I've been it:)

The title of your thread is wrong - if you had the beach to yourself, who's your man in the photo :D

Congrats! I'm always looking at that power plant and thinking there's a good photo out there somewhere, but I could never quite figure it out... looks like this was probably it.

    Thanks guys.

Boardsie's must have similiar tastes to the judges - I got an Honourable Mention in POTY 105 for a shot taken 15 minutes before this one - and it has only one colour as well!

Might enter one of them as a montone in a competition for fun - get a rise out of the purists :)

Well done Adrian, saw this in the mag yesterday. The judges comments "The colours, the background and the lone figure all come together to form a beautiful shot" say it all.

stunning photo, congrads. I'll have to check your blog/site

Can I ask did you set up with tripod, wait for light etc. or was just walking along and 'snapped' it?

I don't have a blog/site  I post on Pix.ie/asadlier, 500px, flickr etc. Most of my shots, as with these ones, are taken when I'm out walking the dogs - which means no tripod. However, I do plan in so far as I'll check tides, sunset times, weather forecasts etc and pick the walk accordingly :D

The biggest problem is keeping the dogs out of the shot and my hand steady - mind you this shot was taken at 1/1000 so no risk of that.
