Am I correct in thinking that a Civil Partner now has the same succession rights under legislation as a spouse, not just for inheritance tax, but under succession laws themselves?

Civil Partners are identical to Spouses for purposes of the Succession Act, 1964 -- they can automatically get the 1/2 or 2/3 share as relevant.

Civil Partners are not liable to CGT/CAT on each other, so you can inherit from your deceased civil partner free of tax.

EDIT: Actually, civil partner doesn't get quite the same amount. 1/2 without kids and 1/3 with kids.

Thanks. Am I also correct in thinking that a civilly Partnered couple have no formal role over the biological children of one of them?

I'm not looking for legal advice btw, I'm just refreshing my memory
