Jaw dislocation

My jaw has dislocated . .....again. I have had problems with the TMJ joint for years now and I am just wondering has anyone else undergone the surgery to fix it and does it work as I know this is the last resort and dentists don't like to do it.

My jaw dislocated on Sunday and I have managed to put it back into place but I am in agony and my face is quite swollen.

Anyone else out there with experience of tmj?

Should you not be off to a doc/OS after something like that??

Yeah really should but can't afford it at the minute to visit the consultant it's 140euro just for consult and another 50euro for x rays!

What can you do in that situation? I don't think there's anywhere cheaper to go?

I had my billateral eminectomy yesterday! Very sore & groggy still. Only time will tell how successful it will be.....fingers crossed :)

My treatment was on the public system and all the staff I came in contact with yesterday were fantastic. I was super nervous and was taken great care of.

That's great susie hope it heals quickly for you. We're you referred by your dentist to get it done? As you can see its around 5am I can't sleep with the pain been awake all night! This is the 4th time this year I've dislocated it and the pain is horrendous.

Really want to get it sorted :)

I was up at that time for the same reason - I'm pretty sore but hoping that will ease up over the coming days.

Yes I was referred by my dentist - I had the opposite problem to you - couldn't open my mouth! It's been a long road so far, and I've further to go. Apparently the surgery is just the start. I have been in a lot of pain for the last few years, so any improvement I'll be happy with.

Have you seen anyone about it yet? Either your GP or dentist could refer you - I'll PM you who is treating me if you like and you can ask about him.

Yeah I have been in the past a number of times but it's just so expensive to see the consultant, the last time I dislocated my jaw it locked shut and my whole face was crooked, couldn't eat, talk and hardly swallow for a week couldn't open my mouth enough to fit a panadol in so was in bits, the consultant said the ball part of the joint is worn away so this is why it keeps popping out.

Yeah if you send me a pm with the details I might just ring my dentist they would have all the records and they might just do a referral letter for me. Hope you feel better soon :)
