    18 and 19, what the hell, regardless of the motives, how do you do that? If it is how it looks it's even less understandable, I'm not even going to try articulate how little I get a mindset that would result in such actions.

    Goes to show in a way how America is supposed to be incredibly progressive on "LGBT rights as Human Rights" but when you scratch the surface.....

    It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Absolutely despicable but sadly many places in the USA are hotbeds of hatred and homophobia and Texas is certainly one of those places.

    In places like Texas LGBT people are literally at grave risk from redneck homophobes.

    Just over a decade ago a black guy was decapitated after being dragged along a road at high speed by KKK racists. There are plenty of vile ignorant Neanderthals in Texas.

    As in homophobic murder!? Jeysus! in this ****ing day and age.

    Were they actually shot for being gay? or is it tabloid syndrome? (calling a homicide a "gay homicide" when the person happened to be gay, even if it had nothing to do with the homicide)

    Absolutely horrific and shocking.

    My heart goes out to them both, their families and friends, one half of whom are praying for survival and recovery but the others are facing the tragedy of a funeral for their daughter/sister/friend.

    They don't know yet if they were targeted because of their sexual orientation or the fact that they were a lesbian couple, so let's not be hasty to come to any conclusions. There could be any number of reason why they were targeted, it may have even been a random attack or they may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. It doesn't seem to be known yet. Anyway, whatever the motives were it's a deplorable attack.

    Some are jumping to conclusions and throwing out snap judgements of an entire state
    And isn't this forum supposed to be free of labels?


    Thousands and thousands get shot in that country every year


    Could be anything, maybe a robbery gone wrong

    Today it is still not know what the motive was for the attack on these two young women.
    Mary Chapa is said to be in serious but stable condition after surgery. The press are waiting to hear what she has to say about the attack and killing of her girlfriend.
    But whatever the reason it is not in any way acceptable.
    LGBT people living in the town of Portland where it happened are usually saying when interviewed that they are shocked and now afraid, but they report that their town has been an area where they did not feel undue discrimination and some people have been saying that they had never even had anything bad said to them for being LGBT.
    Vigils in memory of Mollie Olgin and for the continued recovery of Mary Chapa are happening in different parts of the USA. People are also anxious and calling for the speedy capture of their assailant.
