Should there be one? Helpful for those in areas which may be touch and go and see what others have managed?

I was unsure whether i would get Saorview or not, nobody could tell me, so i just had to have a go. Something like this?

    Location: Just off Bray Seafront
Aerial: Wideband UHF Grid Aerial http://www.tvtrade.ie/wide-band-grid-uhf-aerial.html pointing North
    Aerial Location: In the attic
    Signal Quality: 98%
    Signal Strength: 66%
Saorview Receiver: Built into Sony TV

Or is this a bad idea? Could be popular after 24th October!

In marginal areas, signal will likely vary considerably with small changes in location, so ultimately people will just have to investigate for themselves anyway.

Nothing to stop them posting their findings here though, if they think it might be useful.

Location: Just off Bray Seafront ...pointing North

On bray seafront your aerial should point north west or west, not north. Different parts of the seafront will get 3Rock (sandyford) better than Kippure (west wicklow). On most TVs it is not possible to actually tell if you are getting one or the other better as both are actually on the same frequency as they are both a single frequency network. So your TV can switch from one to the other without you noticing.

For maximum signal use the coverage checker and point it in the direction recommended. All of Bray seafront should get a strong signal.

I finally gave in and bought a saorview box, been trying to set it up for the last 3 days with no success.

I am right smack bang in the middle of Dublin city centre and cant get a signal.

I have no clue what I am suppose to do or how I fix this. I bought a TV aerial which I was assured is the correct one to use.

Any idea's would be greatly appreciated.

What type of aerial are you using?

Outdoor aerials are recommended by Saorview. If the signal strength/quality isn't good enough inside you house the indoor aerial might not be good enough. Do you have a south facing window (Three Rock transmitter) to test the aerial?

    Hi mate,

Thanks for the reply. Yup my apartment is south facing. I'm on the quays.

It might just be that I'm in a rotten area for coverage. I cant put up an external aerial as I'm in an apartment block. So had to go with the internal one.

set the aerial up at the window (to test )

    you should have good reception.

I actually have it sitting on the window ledge, and it still comes up with nothing.

Ah I guess I am destined to not get the digital channels.

Those aerials are not very good (overpriced and barely more than a coathanger)

You need one like this (€6 to €15)
    146610.jpg

    (disassembled).

    124740.jpg

Or an outdoor one (€15 to €25)
This can be tried indoors or in attic

    or

    Cheers Mate,

I'll see if I can pick one up over the weekend.

Nothing to do with the weather. No doubt you're using an indoor aerial?

This is what Saorview say about indoor aerials
Can I Use An Indoor Portable Aerial, Rabbits Ears?

RTÉNL does not recommend the use of indoor portable aerials. They are too susceptible to localised physical and electrical interference. Terrestrial transmission of television, analogue and digital, is designed and built around rooftop reception.

It will be possible for over 50% of the population to receive SAORVIEW with an indoor portable aerial. However on a house to house basis there are many factors than impact on the effectiveness of a portable aerial. For example the orientation of your house, the location of the television in the house, the construction materials, the insulation materials, the proximity to neighbouring houses, walls and obstructions will all impact reception.

An outdoor aerial, positioned as high as possible, pointing towards the appropriate transmission site, with no local obstructions is recommended and will give the best results.

You would have to define your title better, but even so, people have no respect for thread topics, even if you try to limit replies to reception reports from those in a white area on the Saorview coverage map, you'll still get more posts relating to indoor aerials in otherwise well covered areas.

I think you only have to look at the replies so far.
