Dundalk Club Cuchulainn CC are once again promoting the Crowne Plaza Hotel – Tain Team Tour and have also moved to a new slot in the calender from July 13th to 15th.

The race is one of the most unique cycle races in Ireland. A stage race based on points where teams are the victors and not the individuals. The race will be run over three stages with points awarded daily to teams through a combination of intermediate sprints and final finishing places. The race will comprise of a team time trial and two road stages finishing with one of the longest climbs in Ireland, a 500 metre ascent of the picturesque Clairmont Cairn in the Cooley mountains.

Riders will ride as part of county teams, the first team from each county will represent that county, and subsequent teams will represent towns. Teams will be comprised of 4 riders with the best 3 riders to count on each stage. The race is aimed primarily at A3 and A4 riders, although each team is allowed one A2 rider. Teams can be composite with riders from different clubs and counties. As this is a team event it will offer “ordinary club riders” a real chance to race for the coveted malliot jaune whilst having the honor of representing their county.

Of course this event is open to women, be it as a full team or a mixed team. Last year Cycling Ulster entered a womens team & also there has been a number of mixed teams.

Great preparation for the Rás na MBan

What about a composite Boardsie team?
    4 x Riders - A4 or A3 with only 1 A2 allowed.
It's a great introduction to stage racing for ordinary riders and we got a lot of positive feedback the past couple of years.

The link to the route map for stage 1 has been fixed but it's stage 3 you need to worry about. :)

Deadline for entries to Tain Team Tour on July 13th - 15th in Dundalk is approaching. Our race sponsors The Crowne Plaza Hotel are doing a fantastic rate of €125 for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast for the Friday and Saturday Nights, and it's a 4 Star Hotel.

This race was designed with A4 & A3 riders in mind and is an ideal introduction to stage racing. A team only requires 3 - 4 riders and they can be from different clubs.

Oriol Carbo and Kazak Jankowsky (Henry J Lyons - the 'Polish' team) are looking for two competitive A3 riders (ideally from Dublin) to build a team for the TTT. We placed second last year and would like to do better this year --or at least we'd like to enter the race!

We offer transport from Dublin/back to Dublin for each stage.

Contact Kazak [0873568270] or Oriol [0879242993]/PM if interested.

Adam from Swords CC is a very strong rider if that's any good to you (qualified A3 in his first two A4 races this year with a 1st & 2nd place). You could probably contact him through the Swords CC Club. Not sure of his availibility but he fills your criteria, Polish and A3!

Thanks for your lead. Note that the riders DON'T have to be Polish (I'm not Polish myself).

We were the 'Polish' team last year bacause three riders were Polish and needed a name for the team.

IT IS WITH GREAT REGRET THAT WE MUST ANNOUNCE THAT THE 2012 TAIN TEAM TOUR WILL NOT TAKE PLACE DUE TO A LACK OF ENTRIES. ALL ENTRIES RECEIVED TO DATE WILL BE REFUNDED.

That's a shame. I was part of a team entered by Swords CC and was really looking forward to it. Organisers had no choice given the low number of entries but it's a pity an event like this didn't attract more interest. Fair play to Cuchulainn for putting it together and I'd like to think the event has a future, maybe with another slot in the calendar.

A pity. Following our experience, the TTT may have a 'structural' problem, and it is that it needs teams of four, not always easy to gather.

There's a couple of ideas that could make the TTT more popular.

1.- Make teams of two (or three) instead of four.

2.- Open a list of 'interested riders', and then try to match them in teams.

Last option, run the Tain tour as an individual time-based race, with a shorter TT to match the final climbing stage. Nothing original here, but it may increase the number of entries and make the race more viable.

In any case, thanks to Cuchulainn for trying. The TTT has always been a very well organised race and deserves to keep going.

Unfortunate to see this cancelled. I thought with the high number of Cyclists in CI at the moment there would have been good interest in this.
