Lieuwe Westra 14/1 to finish top 10. Recently won the dutch TT, 2nd to Wiggins in the paris-nice. He was only 2 seconds down on wiggins in the last stage TT... 100km of TT will suit.. Worth a fiver.

The ouright market is hard to get involved, hard to see evans and wiggins out of the first 3..

Stranger things have happened. Crashed put Wiggo out last year and a broken elbow did for Evans a few years ago. It's a long 3 weeks and remember 1990 when a freak break almost let Chiapucci win (nothing to do with EPO of course....)

No bet for outright: hard to call.

Thibaut Pinot for the White Jersey, he is apparently even better than Rolland and will be fancy odds. Kruiswijk and Van Garderen will be favoured there.

Also, once we get into the mountains, I will throw a fiver or two on
some outsiders for stage victory: Vasil Kiriyenka at long odds comes to mind plus french guys like Roy and Kadri in one of the breaks.

You can get almost 2/1 for neither Wiggins nor Evans to win...

I was considering that. Rein Taarame would be my other contender at equally fancy odds. He's done nothing since coming 11th last year but I think he'll be team lead for Cofidis and has a much stronger time trial.

Dan Martin at 14-1 to win mountain jersey at Ladbrooks.

Evans and Wiggo are going to crash into each other on a descent, Van Den Broeck is going to winthe****ingthing and I'm going to buy a new bicycle with the proceeds.

    You read it here first.

Having watched all the coverage of Tour of Cali I fancy each way or top 5 bet on Robert Gesink.

That could be a nice bet as I really feel like Dan could do well.

Although it will depend on how much domestique duties he will have to do for Ryder Hesjedal. However Hesjedal could be knackered after his Giro win and be out of contention after the first visit to the big mountains. But Christian Vande Velde and Tom Danielson will also be going for the GC too.
With Tyler Farrar and Robbie Hunter being sprinters, there aren't alot of domestiques in the Garmin-Barracuda Sharp squad.

What about Sagan for the overall win?

No attractive odds on a credible outright winner, so my pocket money went on a Wiggo-Yellow / Cav-Green double at 9:1.

Beginning to regret it now tbh.

    Zero possibility.

Sagan for the green jersey. I may go each way with Goss as I reckon Cav may be sitting at home with his feet up by the time they hit Paris.

I got Valverde e/w at 25/1 back in April. I still think there's good value in that.

I want to see what Cobo has to offer after his Vuelta win last year, haven't heard a peep out of him since...

Agree with that, their focus is the yellow for Wiggins. Cav for a couple of stage wins early and then home for the mountains and olympics

Even taking into account that I'm not riding the tour, both our chances are about the same

Unlikely, and doubly so now. Unfortunate man.

Its a poor event for betting. There is only €107,719 matched on the winner market on Betfair. The market is not helped by the late announcement of teams.

    Tennis / First Round Matches / J Baker v Roddick / €3,372,586 matched

    My Bets
    Jelle Vandendert ... 303.6 ... €4.05 ...€1,225.55
    Pierre Roland ... 50 ... €4.00 ... €196.00
    Rein Taaramae ... 480 ... €3.38 ... €1,619.02

I think Hesjedal is a decent shout for a place. I know better men have tried the Giro/Tour double but i don't think theres going to be huge action in the mountains this year to expose him. He hangs in there and the TT's could see him go close.

    More for my own records...

    Stage wins:
    Dan Martin or Roche
    Moncoutie
    Rolland
    van den Broeck
    Rui Costa
    Coppel
    Roy

Peraud or Westra to finish top ten.
Between Greipel, Kittel, Goss or Boassen Hagen for the green.

Both Dan and Nico are 20/1 for a top 10 finish with Ladbrokes.

2 time trials this year. thats like a 10minute time penalty for Nico before he even starts :D. think they'll struggle to get near the top 10. would love if Dan got in a good break in the mountains though...

Rui Costa at 16/1 to finish in the top 10 seems good value to me. He won the Tour de Suisse last week, he can time trial fairly well and can stick it out on all but the toughest of mountain stages.

Dan Martin at 16/1 for the king of the mountains classfication also seems decent value. I think i remember reading somewhere a few weeks back that he was going target stage wins and the KOM jersey in the tour.

Also Jose Joaquin Rojas to win a stage is 4/1. Not bad considering he ran Cavendish close for the green jersye last year.

One decent bet for me already Van Den Broeck to beat Gesink @ 8/11. Gesink usually packs it in effort wise after one bad day. VDB should be inside top 10 comfortably

I am feeling pretty smug with my 100 bet on Wiggins back in February when he was priced 11/1 :)

?? I never saw him at worse than 2/1, and that's going back to last October. Who was offering that price?

SportingBet, the thing with TDF is you need to get in early to get decent value. Downside to that is you do not get to see how contenders form is going early in the year.

I am hoping it will cover some of the cost of a new road bike later in the year :)

    Hi,
Went to put a few bets on PaddyPower.com, under Rider Stage Wins it gives an Over 0.5 and an Under 0.5 option with different odds for every rider.
    What does this mean?
I tried looking it up online and think it's something nto do with spread betting or something.
Can anyone explain in layman terms to a very occasional gamble?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 401 ✭✭irishbuzz

"Over 0.5" = 1 stage win or more
"Under 0.5" = no stage wins

BTW, there's already a thread for TDF betting here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056682648
