I'm doing the 50km "fun" run as they are calling it. There's a short but serious hill (for me) 5km before the finish. My neighbours could be watching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did the 50km in 2hrs 10 mins. (Actually 46kms).Apparently the hill mentioned above was not on the route yesterday, but was on the route map on the CCC website. So, since I believe everything on the internet, I went up the 5* climb and all the others went downhill to the finish. Consequently I'm adding 4 kms to as a reward: We did have two bad showers as we to the 35-40 km mark.
Hoping to get in for the CCC leisure/social on Tuesday at the Opera house. This should help the training for the SK 50km and Rebel 85 km FINGERS CROSSED.

Did the 50k in 1:53. Had to stop during the main shower as it was so bad I couldn't see the road. Hadn't been out in a while so planned to take it handy. Fancied the 100k but was stuck for time. Nice friendly bunch. Had a few chats. Thanks to the organisers for having a sportif in Glanmire right on my doorstep and for a good cause. There should be more as Glanmire is chock full of roadies.

    Did the 50k yesterday too!

Twas my first outing and only my 4th time on the bike, as I only have the bike a few weeks. Got around in 1h45m including a wee-stop. Was happy enough with that. Got absolutly pi$$ed on almost into Watergrasshill. Drenched wasn't the word, especially in a pair of Asics canvas runners!

It's really given me the bug though. It's seems to drive you on trying to catch the person in front, or pull away from the person behind!:P

I'm from Glanmire too, and was only thinking this morning how there isn't a club down there. There's surely plenty of interest.

you'd be well warmed up after the 5min cycle either direction, or you could always get your new domestiques to come and collect you!

Well sign posted but I did have a bit of an issue with the hills. Did the 100k in 4 hours but I spent the time either bent over the handlebars struggling up hills or else tearing down white knuckled. No chance to enjoy the countryside. Maybe I'm just not fit enough but the 7.5% 50m climb at the 88km mark was a killer. Saw one poor bloke in front of me just stop and bury his head in his handlebars and that was at the bottom of the hill. Tough circuit. Still, it's showed me how much work I have to do for the SK Comeragh challenge.

I enjoyed it and found the course nice and challenging but a few guys who completed the 100 Km said they found it very tough. They would have done the 50 Km if they had thought it was that hard.
The clubs who organize these events seem to make the courses to suit their abilities rather than gear them to the once or twice a week leisure cyclists who want to do more than the 50 Km course but not a tough 100.
I see another Irish guide dogs cycle on Facebook for the 23rd of September, no course details just yet.

Hi Funnights, the Club organises training for leisure riders twice a week in Cork and set the course with this group in mind.

It's hard to plan for good weather and a tail wind for the last 50k.

It's only the second ride like this that Cork C.C.C. has done and as many people want a challenging epic day( Sadists) in the saddle as want an enjoyable day, it's a difficult balance.

Thanks BryanL, I must tag along on a few of those cycles, especially in the winter to keep an eye on the fitness.
Good weather and a tail wind is a bonus in this country, always be prepared to suffer. ;)
