Learner permit out of date?

Sister asked me to book her test today as she's abroad.
When I go into it & enter her name, date of birth & licence number it says she has to do the edt lessons?
Her first permit was issued on the 08/01/08 & expired on the 07/01/09. She had two provisional licences before this I think.
Anyway I thought that she had got her learner permit before the new rules came in meant she was exempt from the edt lessons?
Does she now have to follow the new rules?

That's peculiar, it should last for two years, is she on her third licence now, and when was it issued/ expire?

Yeah it's her third I think. Who should I ring tomorrow over this or am I wasting my time?
Also if she passes the test does she need a full licenced driver with her for a time after the test or what?

If her learner permit was issued on 8/1/08. Then it is expired since 8/1/10. She should still be able to apply for her test without EDT and renew her learner permit as soon as she has confirmation of the test application. She needs to be accompanied as a learner but not after the test.

Ok so what do I do when booking it? Do I ignore the edt warning or do I need to ring someone to clarify this?
Is this just something that comes up when booking the test?

Sorry for all the questions but she's in the uk & it's left up to me to book it.

Ring the driver licence section on 1890 40 60 40. They're very helpful and should sort it put for ya. I'd ring them before ya book though, just to be on the safe side.

I don't know exactly what it said. Nor can I check with my full licence. Book then check with the RSA or visa versa. I would not expect it to make a difference. But write down the warning so you can let the RSA know exactly.

She should still be entitled to a test date, just a matter of renewing her current licence. Doesn't matter if it has expired once she gets it renewed she can can apply again but even if the current one expired she should still been able to apply. The driver number doesn't ever change once you have had a 1st learner permit.

She got her 1st learner permit before 4th April 2011 so she is entitled to not have to do the compulsory EDT lessons.

Now if her current licence is out of date by 5 years then yes she will have to redo her theory test and do the EDT lessons before applying for test unfortunately as she get a new 1st learner permit and be valid after 4th april 2011, she'll have to wait 6 months before sitting the test and do the EDT lessons.

Contact RSA and ring them, they give you the best advice on this.
If she has had provisional licences before how is this her 1st learner permit unless she did the above already? If she is on her 3rd or latter permit, once its not expired by much she just has to renew the licence and apply for her test then. Though if it has expired by 5 years she have to resit her theory test, start all over again and get her 1st learner permit plus EDT lessons along with waiting for 6 months before sitting the test. Her driver number be more important as that never changes. Best to ring RSA for advice on this.

I believe third and subsequent drivers licences are subject to being valid for a year and are only given if you provide evidence that you underwent a driving test in the last two years if applying for a third or subsequent learner permit or evidence of a forthcoming driving test if applying for a third or subsequent learner permit and you have not sat a driving set in the last two years also your licence must not be over 5 years out of date either.
