Replace the permit. Foregoing €15 is better than losing €85 and then being stuck back on the waiting list.

I'd think that the permit expires as soon as the 9th comes round, ie, at 12am on the 9th, otherwise the expiration date would be the tenth. Well that's my take on it. You should ring the office in Ballina to make sure, but I'd say they'll tell you the same thing. The license comes in no time. Both times I sent away for my provisional, it came by the end of the week (That was Laois Co. Council, others may take longer) You can also drop it into the motor tax office personally, if you want to try speed up the process.

You should be OK. If its valid until the 9th it will expire at midnight on the 9th and a new permit would therefore begin on the 10th.

No bother. Thinking back on it, you should be grand. The poster above me has a different opinion, and he's probably correct . . . All this driving test rigmarole must have made me very cynical about the whole system lol.

In any case, if it turns out I was right (which I probably wasn't), you should be able to get a cancellation handy enough prior to the ninth, meaning you won't have to renew anyway.

Anyhow, let us know what they tell ya!

EDIT: Three weeks and counting, that's disastrous
I'd be cracking up if I had to wait that long!

It's valid until the 9th of August regardless but I would still suggest to renew your licence though to be sure.

You never know the test might get cancelled or something. Can take a few days for the renewed licence to come in the post, best to head down to your local Motor Tax Office get your licence renewed there and then. Safe all round.

Better to be safe than sorry than leaving it too close to test time to leave it or to renew it. I'd renew it now before your holiday if I am honest with you, once you have got your test date that's proof you have applied if you are trying to get a 3rd learner permit but even with getting a 2nd learner permit it be worth showing proof of your test date. They renew it on the spot if you head down to the MTO office.

Make sure you have all the main requirements sorted out like passport sized photos, €15 and your current licence and any other requirements like eye test/medical report if needed. You can get your learner permit form either at the MTO office or at a Garda Station. Have it filled out before going to the Motor Tax Office.
