    Hi guys,

Have a budget of 5k to spend on a diesel car. I do on average about 1500-2000 miles per month and need something comfortable.

I'm thinking Mondeo or Passat. REALLY not interested in an Avensis (too boring) but have consider a Saab or Volvo s60.

Any recommendations? Just want to get best bang for buck and good reliability. With Saab gone to the wall does anybody know what it's like to get parts etc.

    thanks!

Saabs can be flaky on the reliability front..
Ive heard some horror stories on mondeos too, but I think the petrols are the ones that give problems..
You can't really go wrong for with a passat tbh but finding one which hasnt been abused and high miles/clocked might pose a slight difficulty.

Yeah I've heard stories on ALL of the above mentioned.
I'm definitely leaning towards a Mondeo though, I know guys that look after them and have 300k + mileage on them.

What kind of mileage, year should I be expecting for 5k?

?? I really cannot see how a Passat would be anymore interesting over an Avensis.

    How about a Honda Accord:

i got a 04 130bhp tdci mondeo in ghia trim with leather for 3250 two months ago. 2 years test 4 new tyres in good condition. it had 180k miles on it but drives/looks like it had only half the millage. they are no way near as sweet a car as the passat or dont feel as well built but the passat costs a lot more.
