The Irish channels aren't on Freesat, so unless your tv is capable of decoding the Saorview signal, you'll need a box. There are satellite/terrestrial combo boxes available, but none of these are genuine Freesat receivers & will be lacking a proper EPG & interactive features, as well as needing manual retuning if any frequency changes occur.

Plenty of info on free tv available in Ireland here: http://www.saortv.info/

So you can't even tune your freesat box to pick up the Irish stations manually? I have a Humax freesat hd box and was wondering the exact same question.

If your receiver allows tuning of non-Freesat channels, you could get the RTE channels & TG4 (no TV3 or 3e) via Saorsat, but to combine this with Freesat on 1 dish, you would need a large dish (probably 90-100 cm) & a Ka band lnb.

Maybe your tv is already capable of decoding the Saorview signal, in which case you'd only need a suitable UHF aerial.

The Irish channels are encrypted on satellite at 28.2 degrees by Sky. RTÉNL use a different satellite at 9 degrees for SaorSat which needs extra equipment and changes to your dish set up.

In simple terms no. To get Saorview channels for free you need a TV aerial connected to a Saorview box or TV and not a dish.
