Okay I might have a chance of InterRailing later this year so I want to work out the kinks a bit.

It will be about 10-15 days so if anyone could suggest me a good route to go on that would be such a great help.

The countries I'd least go to are Poland, Spain, France, UK and Belgium but if it makes the route smoother then I don't mind.

I was thinking along the lines of starting in Amsterdam or finishing in Amsterdam but I'm not sure yet.

By the way any advice on InterRailing would be a great help! If you have done it before throw your tips and tricks here please :)

    Thanks :)

Just got back from inter-railing there 2 weeks ago. I went with a group of nine , for 10 days and we started in Amsterdam spent 3 days there, Then 2 days in Paris , 2 days in Frankfurt took a day trip to Zurich en route to Milan and spent 2 days in Milan before we flew home.

In all honesty I found 10 days to be way too short . I personally like to take my time in each city but , since we only had 2/3 days at most to see everything . (Which for most places is no where near enough especially on top of all the near constant travel) meant we were always tired and usually spent the first day in each city asleep which was such a waste. Since we were always tired as well as the enormous size of our group there was always constant tension, bickering and fighting.

The size of our group also made it difficult to find hostels , make train reservations etc. ( we opted to take high speed trains with reservations due to our time constraints) and most importantly be on time for the trains.

So yeah in summation I'd say really consider who you go with , the time you'll have in each city , ensure that the people you go with have the same interests/want to do the same things as you and try book hostels in advance (esp in major cities). I know it ruins the spontaneity of it but we didn't do this for most places and found ourselves very far out and Paris we almost didn't get a bed at all.

On a more positive note it was a great experience and I'd defiantly go again . But most defiantly for longer and with a much smaller group(4 max.) if not alone.

The cities I most liked were Paris and Amsterdam. If I had the option to go again I'd defiantly finish off in Amsterdam instead of start there. I'd also recommend camping(camp zeeburg for Amsterdam) if you can/don't mind not being in the very city centre , you'll save yourself ALOT of money as opposed to saying in hostels which can cost up to €30 .

If you do stay in hostels though try make sure they have a kitchen where you can cook , I did this and saved loads. =D

Sounds great! I wouldn't mind going that route and even skipping Paris. Amsterdam-Frankfurt-Milan-? It's a Global Pass I'll be given so maybe 2 weeks and a half I'll do I'm not sure yet though! I'll only have the boyfriend going with me and as long as we do plenty of activities he'll be pretty happy.

How did you book your reservations for the trains? Did you book them as you went or was it before you left? I've never did Inter Rail before so excuse my silly questions!

Did you have trouble with the language? I'm alright at French but what about the rest?

Is there any tips or recommendations?

I'm thinking of interrailing next summer with some friends, and have a rough idea for a route, starting in Rome and visiting Florence, Venice, Lake Bled, Budapest, Vienna, Krakow, Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris. That's a month pass, so for 10-15 days maybe,

    Amsterdam-Berlin-Prague-Budapest-Vienna-Munich.

Just an idea, whip out google maps and doing some brain storming, it's great fun!
