Water Filtration System

Firstly, Mods if I'm in the wrong place and may get a better answer elsewhere please feel free to move. I have recently bought an old farmhouse and the water feeding the property is gravity fed from a tank on the side of a mountain, sourced from a well. The problem is when it rains the water in the house becomes brown from whatever surface runoff.

No problem when its dry but as we know thats a rare occurance these days. I am in the process of getting the water tested to make sure its fit for drinking, washing etc. My query is, is there a filtration system that I could connect to the mains water coming into the property that would sort the problem?

I am planning on sinking a well at some stage but was wondering is there a relatively inexpensive way of correcting this in the meantime. There is no problem with pressure etc. Any advice, ideas or personal experiences greatly appreciated, thanks in advance for all replies.

After you get the results of the tests on potability you can see what type of filtration system is needed, if any. There are some filter systems which can cost more than the cost of a borewell and pump. There are also some cheaper reverse osmosis type domestic filter systems you can get (PM sent) just make sure they will treat whatever is needed from the tests.

Thanks for the reply I'm still waiting on the test to be carried out, I'm nearly glad the weather is so bad so it will show up the worst that comes out of the tap, greatly appreciated.
