Hazards of off road running/biking

So I was out on my mountain bike during the week in my local woods, later that night I noticed I had no less than three ticks attached to my legs!!

Pulled the f*****s off easily, but I often end up going off the beaten track when I'm trail running or biking so chances are I'll get a few more of them latching onto me again!!

After a run this morning I gave my legs a good rub down when I was finished, but has anybody here have any advice other than shaving my legs?!

Why not wear white compression socks to protect your legs and so that you can see the ticks? I was talking to a few people who got lyme disease when I was in Nantucket and its no joke. http://www.ticktalkireland.org/preventingtickbites.html

I presumed he meant when "trail running" which the OP is more likely to pick them up. If not my bad ;)

Socks would be no good,I found one as far up as my inner thigh, and I always wear shorts when on the bike or running, unless its a really cold winters day.
I might give insect repellent a go
