Shipping; $100 a pelt, import permits and agents fees $70 a pelt. Fur market in Ireland, non-existent.

I don't think there's any economical value for pelts around these parts, it would be great if there was. Earn a few quid while having a good time and all that.

I take it wild mink pelts would be worth even less:confused:

With the added advantage that one is not committing about half a dozen offences at the one go either like the muppets who're poaching deer are doing.

I've only ever come across a handfull of roadkilled otters in my 35+ years, so I guess any hope of living the high life off that are rather forlorn:(;)

Getting back to wild pelts that can be harvested - I take it theres a serious difference between the quality of mink pelts produced by fur farms and ones you would trap in the wild as part of your own vermin control measures??

mink on farms are specifically bred for fur quality and the diet they be eaten is for fur quality. A wild/feral mink is bred for survival not the quality of da fur.

I was thinkin as much - the fact that our winter climate is quiet mild compared to Canada would probably militate against the wild ones having a decent winter pelt in this country too. Pity that as it would certainly encourage a greater trapping effort if these pelts had some value

You have to be granted it on your section 42 which isn't very hard. Thought it would be deadly to get but just a signed form and your set

fox pelts selling for $39.00 , how much have i left in fields over the years http://trappingtoday.com/index.php/category/fur-prices/

You've left €0 in the fields. Foxes from Russia, Canada, etc. will all have much better quality pelts than foxes from Ireland, we don't have the climate to compete.

Take out your time and material cost to skin and cure them and you'll be looking at a nice loss.
