Please can I have some advice?

    Hi -

I'm looking for some general advice here please.

My parents currently have a Sky TV package and have another TV and I was suggesting to them that maybe they should change all TV's to Saorview.
They generally just use the main RTE channels and BBC and Sky News from their Sky package and don't generally spend that much a month on the Sky package but over a year it can add up.

Could someone tell me if they do decide to get Saorview can they re-use / re-cycle and use their Sky dish, I really am dubious about there being any need to replace their current dish with a new one as I thing its a selling Con to be honest.

Also has anyone come across any good packages that might be about ? I have noticed that PC World and Tesco are advertising Saorview.

Thank you for any advice given.

    :)

Who said the dish needs to be replaced?

Any Sky receivers will continue to receive & decode the non-subscription channels but will lose recording ability. You can use the dish for other satellite receivers.

Saorview is a terrestrial service & requires a UHF aerial.

Firstly welcome to boards. Tv in Ireleland is quite complicated as people expect both Irish and UK channels. Saorview only carries Irish channels and no UK ones.

To leave Sky subscriptions generally we recommend 2 boxes for TV.

Box number one is Saorview approved and connected to an aerial not a dish

The second box is connected to the dish and is called FreeSAT+HD

This is the closest to Sky that give the Irish and UK channels with least fuss. They will lose all premium channels such as Sky1, Sky atlantic, MTV, discovery channel, most movies, sport etc.

The dish does not need to be changed but they need to be out of the years contract with Sky. If they attempt to leave Sky, they will be offered all sorts of deals encoraging them to stay.

For Saorview you need a TV aerial along with the dish which you may already have.

    Ask qns if unsure.

Also please explain what channels are currently on the 2nd TV

Sorry to butt in, but would these two boxes be a good idea for the digital switch over, as opposed to buying a Sky box? Thanks.

Start a new thread listing where you are and what TVs and providers you currently have and we can advise better.
