I've been watching a blackbird in the garden all day. It looks tired and disheveled. When I go to pick it up it flies gingerly up on to the garden wall. Then it comes back and lies down in a sunny part of the garden. It looks like its dying. Is there anything I can do.

The Blackbird that was nesting in my garden has started moulting and is doing alot of sun bathing on the shed roof, I think this is what you maybe seeing too.

yeah sounds like it is sun bathing - wings out and tail spread.

Found the bird dead in the garden today. Strange that he kept coming back to the same spot before he passed away.

Yeah prob an old bird id say.

My 8 year old rescued a baby black bird from a dog in the estate 4 weeks ago, it couldnt fly or feed itself so it was taken in and fed with a Syringe and then into worms and other bits, we let it out the back to learn to fly and it just flew around the garden a while and came back in to sleep  this evening it went on its way after over an hour of flying around the garden :) prob be back tomorrow tho!
