Broom Handle Putters

Just been watching the trials of Marcel Siem at the BMW open.
While taking penalty drop from a hazard, he was using his ridiculously long
putter to establish his 2 clublengths to drop.
Now ,while i am not a fan of the long putters and am all in favour of a rule to stop any club being 'anchored' to the body - i have never before joined in on the 'cheating club' bandwagon.
But on this occasion i do feel, it really is bending the rules to the extreme, and is surely gaining an unfair advantage on fellow normal length putter competitors. (granted we could all carry one if we wanted to)
But i mean - in theory ,you could carry a 12ft putter and let it extend into the sky while putting, just to be able to gain a 24ft drop away from a hazard!!!!
Something has got to be done about this in my opinion,
Surely the driver should be classed as your longest club in this situation.
The sooner these things are outlawed the better!!

Not even in theory can you carry such a long putter. So they dont really need to do anything as far club length dropping goes - club length is limited to 48" already by rule.

They do need to outlaw the belly/broom putters tho. A bit like Jimmy Carr's tax avoidance - it may be legal, but morally it is not right. They are just to far away from the traditional golf swing.

Agreed , and yeah i prob was getting a bit carried away before.
Didn't know that the length was limited to 48" either.(quite rightly)
But if that is true, i would get the tape measure on Mr Siems putter,
as being a tall man, i reckon his putter to reach his chest must be longer than 4 ft??!! plus there must be a reason he chose to use it for his 2 clublengths as opposed to his driver which is usually around the 48" mark!!

Apologies and I must correct myself. The 48" rule does not apply to putters. You can carry your 12' putter !
