So I gots me a liddle problem then.
My screen is 7 years old and I like watching streams online, like series and football. The sound is starting to go when I stream, it's gone so bad I can't watch anymore. However when I turn on the vc player to listen to music the sound is perfect, so the speakers must be alright. I now have serious Eric Northman withdrawal so help must be immanent.

Make sure all your sound drivers are up to date and the media streaming your using to watch the stuff, make sure that is up to date and all settings are at default.

What Is a Sound Card Driver?

Listening to audio from a computer system requires a sound card. With the right type of sound card, you can turn a standard computer into a multimedia entertainment system. In order to make the sound card actually work, you'll also need a sound card driver. Various sound card manufacturers provide you with drivers that are made to make their devices perform.

I do not have a sound card in my hardware. I have been trying to follow google in updating my hardware but it is not listed. What I have is audio codecs and legacy audio drivers. I suppose that would be the driver?

What are you streaming from? Could just be a bad stream!

Couchtuner. Was watching True Blood and the sound was unbearable. I don't think it is the stream though.
Edit I would say it is the website, will come back if I have problems elsewhere.
    Thanks!

I have a Realtek AC'97 Audio driver 2005. The pc isn't finding the update for this, maybe there is none? The problem is persisting even tough I have updated Flash.

this driver is for XP.. http://download.cnet.com/Realtek-AC-97-Driver-Windows-98-Me-2000-XP-2003/3000-2120_4-10238712.html if you are using VISTA let me know and i'll found you another driver.

have you tried right clicking on a video and disabling hardware acceleration? hard to imagine the issue is with drivers if you can play music files without a problem but wouldn't hurt to update them anyway.

You sir deserve a free drink after that. I now have a much louder sound and I also disabled on right click. It seems to be a multi channel audio I have now which seems much improved.
