Great performance there from Matthysse against Soto, he would be a worthy challenger for the winner of Khan - Garcia and I'd give him a chance!

Ortiz is a bully, grand when he's coming forward & having his own way ...... but when it got put to him he f***in bottled it.

After the bulls*it of last week.... finally Boxing returns to it's glory.

    Delighted.

That's what they're saying. Was a great fight up till now. Ortiz is nutter in fairness. Always something with him.

Broken jaw.... Karma..... it's a bastard lol.

you were not wrong there thats for sure

Ortiz drives me mad, smiling and d*cking about when he blows it again

find the fire in your belly FFS

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,225 ✭✭✭Henno30

I don't want to be too hard on Ortiz, a broken jaw is absolutely no joke, but this is the last thing he needed for his own image in the sport. Rightly or wrongly, he'll never shake the quitter reputation now.

It's hard to know what to make of him. He fights hard in fairness, but he comes across as very strange at times. The laughing and the comments he makes after defeats don't help.

wouldn't be surprised if the jaw isn't broken at all to be honest with ya

not saying he is not hurt, just don't think its to the extent to warrant quitting.

Ortiz ALWAYS looks for an exit strategy when he hits bother in a fight

Nice to see Jack Nicholson in the crowd again.

Been a while since I kopped him in the crowd

I think he's so used to watching the Lakers play in the NBA finals at this time of the year that he got confused and went in when he saw a crowd. And those shades. Poor lad.

In the interview in the ring after the fight Ortiz seemed to claim that the jaw got broken in rd 1. That maybe was to impress upon us how he went so far with a broken jaw before quitting.

He specifically mentioned the beginning of the round (as in the beginning of the round after which he quit)

anyone got a link to this can't find it on youtube?
is it worth watching? got sidetracked watching the ufc last night

shame really was looking forward to seeing him v canelo.

glad i didn't put money on him, was tempted to back, 1.12 was shocking odds for a man who seems to carry a white flag in his trunks.

Yes, he did, but he at first implied that it happened in rd 1. I am almost certain of this. He was then queried on this by the interviewer and then he seemed to roll back and imply that it happened in the 8th or 9th rd. I will have to re-watch it to see.

Edit: Yes, he first claimed it happened in rd 1. The interviewer queried him on it and then he apologised and said it happened during rd 9.

Ref did a tremendous job in this fight. He should get more high profile assignments.

He could have run for the last rounds and probably still would have got the decision. Unless the jaw wasn't the real problem at all, I mean he sounded fairly out of it!

Yea due to the suspected broken jaw.

Ortiz is still very young. He could still have a very, very successfull career. I think hes only 24 right? Has some breath taking skills but for all the talk of him being a huge WW he definitely won't have the power for LMW if he can't get Little Josesito Lopez out. He was a little fart compared to Ortiz. I wish him all the best, Ortiz, boxing lacks characters these days and he certainly is one!

No I mean he was acting and sounded rocked to me. For a fight this important his corner should have told him to run it out and hope for the decision, unless they saw there was something else wrong.

I agree he definitely brings some much needed character, and still very young so it's way too early for people to say he's finished.

Tough break for him if his jaw was actually broken - no pun intended.

BUT hypothetically speaking I would not pay to see Ortiz fight, he is a downright dirty fighter at times. I was critical of floyd sucker punching him in his fight (I'm a floyd hater at the best of times) but the more I think about it, after the headbutt, then the rabbit punching in this fight, he doesn't deserve any better.

Can't understand a fighter smiling after a fight ending in those circumstances, any real professional should be disgusted with themselves for letting a chance like that slip away.

It's just the way he is. It looks strange I know, but a guy doesn't get to his level unless he takes his business seriously. I think there's been a bit too much of a backlash against him in some quarters. He's a young guy who's jaw was broken. It's a big deal. If he wanted to fight on, then more credit to him for doing so, but I don't think it's the kind of thing you can demand a guy does. It's his life, and he has to live with the consequences of this sh*t.

Anyone watch the fight last night?

I heard this morning he was stopped in the 2nd round, I thought it must have been a brutal stoppage or a perfect punch á la Marquez-Pacquaio.

Watched the fight just there, and the guy just has no heart whatsoever. He's like a faded veteran just showing up for his pay check. Had a decent first round and at the first sign of trouble in the second round he takes the fall, although he was caught with a good shot. His career has very quickly become what might have been.

I'd be happy if I never saw him fight again.

With all the genuine, honest boxers all over the world fighting for peanuts, this heartless coward gets paid good money yet again to quit once somebody stands up to him.

I hope he retires, or at the very least US TV companies finally can see that they are completely wasting their money on him. He's gutless.
