So I'm thinking of getting the [Acoustic 260 Ministack
from the good auld lads at Musicians Friend for what seems like a really good deal. The feckin' Gallien Krueger I was going to get off of Thomann sold out apparently so this looks like a nice substitute.

But tell me, are all those importing stuff from the States stories from hell true when you're dealing with these chaps?

Any experiences would be greatly appreciated.

$179 for amp + you have to buy main transformer 110V/230V

Amps are heavy. shipping will be expensive.

and you'd get hit with import duty in the UK, prolly same in Eire

High shipping cost + 23% tax + 220v tranformer = Not Worth The Hassle

Importing from the states only really works when the items are much cheaper, there is the extra cost of delivery as well as customs charges and tax when you bring something in from the states. You have the hassle of needing to carry around a transformer everywhere to plug your amp in safely too which can be a real pain. For an amp in that price range I wouldn't bother, plus you should be able to find an EU distributer for it.

The Acoustic company has been around since 1967 and made some of the amps for Jaco Pastorius. But because of their name, even attempting to find a distributor in Europe is hard going when you Google "acoustic amps Europe". :D:D:(:(

Dollar to Euro exchange rate is bad at the moment also, so this will add to the cost.

That's exactly what he's talking about, he's not looking for an amp for an acoustic guitar, he's looking for an amp made by a brand called Acoustic. But anytime you search for it it throws up lists of amps for acoustic guitars.

Pretty sure there is no European distributor for the new Acoustic stuff so you'd have to buy from the states. I'd find out what the shipping cost is and then add 23% to the lot and see if it's still worth your while. At a guess that's a Class D head so not too heavy, relatively speaking, so shipping mightn't be too bad.

Just be aware that new Acoustic stuff bears very little resemblance to the legendary 70s gear outside aesthetics.

I had an Acoustic Bass head and it was horrible - worked fine - just sounded rough and woeful. Totally outmoded bass amplification - not in a good way!

I'd have to agree with what martinedwards and darrenw5094 wrote. It just doesn't seem worth it to me.
