Sorry for my ignorance in this subject area but im just inquiring regarding passing the exams is it pass or fail or do results matter (I understand they obviously do matter but is it like having a 2:1 or a 2:2 degree)? Do employers look at how good you actually done.
Going into 3rd year Accounting & Finance in UL and just trying to get to grips with all the different qualifications.

Would really appreciate any relevant info
    Cheers :D

you need 50 to pass and thats that , job done. If you get 99% then you have done 49% more work than you should have done ,50% is the same as getting 99% in professional accountancy exams because you get the same thing............passed subject.

In general, if you are looking for an internship with most of the accounting firms ie price water house, kpmg, grant thornton, they will be looking for a minimum of a 2.1 degree and this is usually the first elimination process it seems(some people on here might be able to clarify that) some will be just looking for a 2.2 and some wont really have any minimum requirements.

I completed finance and accounting in NUIM in last may and with regards to nuim, you had to have 50% in certain modules to get exemptions from some of the professional exams in acca, aca, cpa but each different in the exemptions you'll receive ( your course co ordinator will be able to clear this up)

Blinky was right with the 50% with the exams in acca, but cpa, aca, cima all differ so i would suggest to start doing your reserch now over the summer cause from the past experience of final year, I wish I had did my homework earrlier and not left it so last cause you'll be under enough stress from final year :)

    Hope this Helps

Should just clarify there, that i mean that cima, cpa aca all offer different areas of accounting to study in. From advice i got CIMA is to do with management/industrial they just all differ slightly and with how they stand globally

Also try get some work experience this summer if you havent already as it will help greatly come applying to firms

In my experience you need a high 1.1 to get an interview in the big 4. They'll come around and say the minimum is 2.1 but I don't know anyone who applied on a 2.1 that got an interview and I know a few with 1.1 degree's who didn't either. They just seem to pick the people with the highest grades. I don't see the attraction as you spend 3 years doing all of one area and you come out after it and you're not very employable. My advice would be to research the accounting bodies and pick one and then apply for jobs in firms where they are members of you're chosen body. Try and get some work experience in a relevant place on you're CV this summer, it will help immensely!

I have to disagree with the 1.1 statement..... 3 of my friends who got 2.1 got accepted into e&y delotte, i think its a factor of everything imo...

Ill hopefully have a 2.1 and 8 months work experience in luxembourg in the financial sector. I'd of hope id at least be in the reckoning for an interview all going well.
On average how many graduates do the big 4 take on each year?

Did BBS in UL also. They took on people with 2.1s when I was there. Really helps if you have good co-op experience.
