Not sure if I have the correct page but does anyone know how to get a photo removed from a website?
It was taken without the persons permission while they were asleep in a partially undressed state and they are very distressed by its appearance online.
I know that once its out there it out there but any help would be appreciated

First, ask politely. If that doesn't work, come back and tell us some actual details.

photo was taken while friend was asleep (and a little drunk) in her nightdress.her nightdress was hitched up, her underwear was removed and a photo taken , so you can understand why link wont be added.
she is currently looking into legal action but would like to just sweep it under the radar and be done with it

What's the domain name of the website, the part after www.

I havent been given the address, but was shown the picture (with editing for modesty) she would prefer not to promote the site but suffice it to say it is a porn related site.

If you ask this on the photography forum you should get some good advice.

Hope who ever took the picture gets shown the error of their ways, unacceptably ****ty thing to do.

    Thanks for that,.
her (current) fiance has shown him the error of his ways and the consequence of getting caught

if you know what the website is you can go to www.whois.net, put in the website address and it should give you the details of who registered the website and sometimes contact details.

Worth a try, the contact details aren't always there though.

    (example for Microsoft : http://www.whois.net/whois/microsoft.com)

I assumed it was facebook or something. Did a site take the image from a facebook account?

A scummy thing to do. But why people don't bother to control/tweak their privacy settings on FB is beyond me.

not much you can do with profile & cover pics if they find you on it though

True, but it's easy enough to choose an anonymous picture. My profile pic is of a particular animal, I like to keep my private life separate from my professional life. FB can work well if you keep things tight, I just don't allow any Apps to have access to my page. Most people have no clue that their personal data is harvested and becomes fair game on FB.

how many people would do something like that though?

It's not really in the spirit i'll call it of FB having a animal or whatever as your profile pic, sort of like those boy racers who've cars as their profile pic - and you think "what a muppet".

i'm not calling you a muppet btw as you've your reasons but you know people won't do that,
cover pics maybe but not profile pics or at least not for too long, anyway profile pics aren't usually too incriminating.

as for the blocking apps i do that too but i'm not sure how much effect it really has, as anyone your friends with that authorises apps, the apps have permission to get info from their friends list

Yes I know you're not, but due to the nature of my profession I really have to maintain my privacy and anonymity. I only joined Facebook after attending a mates wedding in Hong Kong. He asked me to sign up so I could post up the wedding pictures for him. I did and it's what I have mainly used Facebook for ever since. My friend list is family and close friends so it's a tight bunch. I do ignore a lot of friend requests and that's where the problems starts with a lot of people I think. Stupidly adding to their friend lists without properly moderating their level of access.

Regarding apps, I have no personal information on Facebook that is actually accurate, whether it be location, status, dob, interests ect. My mates know this and most are similarly security conscious. So apps are really getting nothing from me.

yeah i know people who have > 500/600 friends, some close to & even above 1000. accepting people you've meet a few times or know from somewhere isn't too bad i think, but complete strangers or businesses is stupid.

Although a lot of people don't bother changing their setting in the first place, which are public by default i think, which is worse than having a large friend list

on the apps do you know if they can still access your data through your friends if you've blocked them?
