Heard radio ad yesterday for Mcguirks sale, stating in no uncertain terms that ALL mens golf shirts were on sale for 39.99 euro.
Had a look in there this morning and the Galvin Green golf shirts are only down to 59.99 !!
Bit of false advertising there me tinks!!

They are having a laugh. They had Adidas polos for 69 euro. These are now "on offer" for 39 euro........which is roughly the price they have been in the UK online stores for the past three months.

Branded golf clothing in general is a rip off, huge markups.
I bought 3 golf polos off Sportsdirect lately for under 20 euro each,Nike,Adidas and Greg Norman.
    Perfect quality .

Pffft, Ping, Nike, Kartel - who needs em... Penneys, Dunnes Stores & Heatons have everything you need at a fraction of the price...

If i'm gonna overspend on golf, it better be on a new 'cure-all' golf club or practice gimmick and not on clothing that I'll only wear on course & nowhere else :)

I was playing golf with the brother the other day and he had a nice outfit on.
Black trousers,15 euro from Tesco and nice polo shirt,8 euro in Aldi .
    Looked the part.

No joke, my favourite golf shirt is a navy one I got in Lidl about 8 years ago. Comfortable, washes perfect and the amount of people who say "that's nice, where'd you get that??" is hilarious!

I visited said establishment last week, cash in hand to buy a CG16 wedge. Listed price was 99 euro. Sales guy wouldn't budge from 90. Great sale?!

Tried then to trade in a TM RAC black wedge...80 plus the wedge, he says (ie a tenner for a club with a brand new 12 euro grip without a scratch on the head)

Ok, time to move on...Visited the local club here in Greystones. Sale on here, the assistant said.

About 200 shirts assortment from Cutter and Buck, Kartel, Nike, Footjoy, Hilfiger etc...20 euro a pop, 3 for 50.

Ok, thanks, but I'd be shot if I bought any more clothes.

They sold me the CG16 for 69 euro. (Cheapest I've seen it was 69 sterling online)

Oh, and an R11 3 wood for 99 also (Mc Guirks had a used one in the bag and wouldn't budge from 170, even though it had been played)

Keep it local and help the little guys!

So he offered 10% off the wedge and hes a sh*thead yeah?

Regarding the second bolded bit, I dont believe that for A SECOND! McGuirks are selling the R11 fairways for €189 brand NEW, ur telling they had a used one there and wouldnt budge from 170? Gimme a break. Sounds like ur just bashing them to be honest, ive always got good deals any time i went there.

No ,100 in Greystones for the 3w is correct, the 200 I posted is for the driver,re the used 3w that sounds way off but if you get the wrong goon up there you wouldn't know,no prices advertised on their 2nd hand clubs just up on the system so it depends on when they traded club in

That was my point. I also never referred to him as a ****@head. 10% off would be absolutely standard in a golf shop with cash. Therefore, as stated elsewhere, it ain't a great sale, Rodney, is it??
Plus a pretty heavy aggressive tone, Tone

Believe me, I thought it very strange too that all I was getting was 10% on what was a used R11, regardless of cost.. May well have been a mistake on the part of the sales guy.. Not a Mc Guirks basher at all, just stating the facts of a strange deal. There is no way the guy who traded in the R11 got close to that money either.. 80 at most I'd guess knowing how those transactions work

Maybe the used R11 fairway wood for €170 was a TP version or had an upgraded shaft to warrant the additional cost?

The 10% discount on the wedge is pretty poor if they've a supposed sale on. As ckeego posted a 10% cash reduction would be standard and in fact McGuirks sell their vouchers at a 10% reduction (ie €100 voucher will cost €90 cash etc) so in effect their sale on the wedge was non existent.

It always pays to shop around and despite their buying power and chain of stores McGuirks don't always have the best prices. I recently stopped in to Shane O'Grady's proshop in BlackBush and was pleasantly surprised with the range of quality items at competitive prices. Thought a stand alone shop wouldn't be able to compete on price but ended up buying a Powakaddy Twinline 3 push trolley for €110 while McGuirks had it advertised at €149 online. Great service from the assistant pro in the shop at the time also so I left a happy customer and more likely to return.

Given the competitive prices on certain items in small proshops and other stores around the country I think it's important golf clubs issue GUI vouchers as prizes since they give golfers the flexibility to shop around. Some clubs and societies in Leinster issue McGuirks vouchers which are handy and have the advantage that the shop honor them despite their expiry date thereby enabling you to build them up to buy something significant but the downside is that you don't always obtain the best price.

Is this a widespread practise as each year I have been buying 500 Euro in golf society prizes using a company cheque book in the Blanchardstown store and no one ever offered a discount.
Discounts were offered when buying products using the vouchers and my understanding with McGuirks was that the vouchers were treated as cash

Just back from a local golf shop and noted the prices as the family want to buy me golf gear for Christmas. Then I went on-line, visited McGuirks, and the prices locally, if not comparable, are better. And in these times if you add the cost of a trip to the Capital to the price its better to buy locally (as quoted above) outside the Pale.

In defence of McGuirks they have the best goalkeeper that Meath has ever produced working in their Blanch store, Brendan Murphy.

I suspect the reason he is there is twofold; firstly, to entice awestruck Meath men and, also, their lady friends, as I am reliably informed by my other half that he is a square jawed adonis of a man. Personally, he doesn't do it for me but the new taylor made ghost blade putter does give me the sexy feeling any time I go in...some day I shall take thee home with me.

Oh the putter, definitely. At least I could leave it unattended with the wife. No hope if I brought Brendan Murphy home.....

My understanding was that it was widespread. I'm treasurer of a work golf society and for the past three years we've been sourcing most of our prizes in McGuirks Leopardstown and each time received the 10% discount. I haven't personally bought the vouchers but wasn't aware that there was any secret handshakes or other such requirements to avail of the discount. Wasn't even aware you had to ask for the discount. The receipts each time show the denominations of the vouchers bought and the 10% discount applied to the subtotal.

Thank you for sharing this information, I really do not know what to say but I am furious with the Blanchardstown store, over 10 years my company has been buying these vouchers.

Perversely I only came across this thread because of complaints that I have received from Voucher winners that they cannot be used online with McGuirks and that in-store pricing was different to online which I personally had an example off on Sunday with Karl from the Airside store.

Since Sunday 11th November, 2 emails sent to sales@mcguirksgolf.com have been unanswered apart from the automated receipt confirmation that McGuirks website sends.

Does anyone have a name or number for a senior management member in McGuirks that I could speak to, as the store staff are not empowered to handle serious complaints about the voucher process.

A further update on trying to keep it local..

Sports shop in Kilcoole recently sold me a spotless used TM Burner Superfast2.0 for 50 euro complete with headcover.

Those fabled CG16 wedges are on sale at 59 euro in the driving range in Greystones. Not connected with them in any way but they could give classes to the guys in Mc Guirks on customer service too...

I have also found the same - I recently sent 4/5 emails around one of their sales and not once did I receive an answer. Pretty shocking customer service - as a result I don't look at their website anymore. Better deals from UK based sites.
