Who services your automatics?

Who do you go to to have your automatics serviced? My usual horologist is moving out of servicing seiko watches. They are doing me a favor by fixing one watch, but after that I'm not sure who I would trust to open, tinker with, pressure test and clean my watches.

    All recommendations are appreciated.

It's the first post in the FAQ sticky. I think most people here would recommend Watchrepairs.ie

I would recommend watch repairs.ie also, but they are the ones moving away from seiko servicing! They are really doing me a favor this time but I don't want to be bothering them with my seikos on a regular basis.

Why not have Seiko themselves do the repairs?

Because Its blindingly expensive compared to having someone here do it.

I get it done in ireland its 7 euro registered post, and about 100 quid for labour (just for a service).

Seiko require you to ship back to Seiko HQ in the UK, at a cost of 40 quid, and they are a lot more expensive for the service also.

Plus, if i have a few watches its easier just to get them done in this country

Timemark (www.timemark.ie) operate a Seiko service centre in Ballymount, with a drop in service. Don't know what the prices are like, but maybe they would be an option.

Well they're a worldwide franchise with Irish franchisees. I'd be interested to see if anyone has direct experience of them. They do say they handle vintage stuff, but my experience of enquiries on that score didn't inspire my confidence TBH. Maybe others have better experiences though?

I used them a few years ago as I bought a watch with a broken stem. They managed to source one and fit it to the watch (I'd say it was easy to source the stem as the watch has an ETA 2836-2, so pretty common) and was happy with the whole process. To this day I didn't notice any problems with the said stem, so they must've done a good job. On that account, I would recommend them.

Next time I'm in the Square, I'll inquire about the cost of a service for an automatic watch.

I mailed timemark last week for details on their services and if they can help. 6 days and counting and no reply yet. that does not inspire confidence.

Also they have a policy (detailed on the site) that for cheaper watches if they stock them they offer them at a discount of 30% if they think the repair cost is too high. This strikes me as a sales mechanism. I dont want a new watch, i want my current watch repaired.

The jury is still out with timemark at the mo but im not sure want to send my watches to them.

    Jeez, hardly inspiring indeed!

FYI, never got a response from Timemark. If they are unable to manage an email inbox and reply to a potential customer they are IMO unfit to open and service any of my watches.

    Hi,

In Ireland your best bet is probably watchrepairs.ie.

If you stuck with servicing your watch maybe throw me a PM and I can get it serviced for you.
