I need a new car. Here are two that suit my budget. I need an estate and do a fair amount of driving with gear. I also prefer to keep running costs down.

The ford is obviously the nicer at but it has considerably more miles and is 4 years older. But then it's deisal so it all balances out I suppose.

    Any advice? Thanks in advance.

can anyone explain me what is there SPORTY about that Chevrolet lacetti 1.6 SX SPORT?

You just got to love the description of the Lacetti:

"Perfect condition" - A quick look at the photos, front driver's side bumper corner has a large scuff on it, it could have others that are not visible in the photos. "Full spec" - lol, missing plastic wheel trim. "Will pass any test" - yet no mention of a NCT.

The Mondeo is expensive imo given the year but is the better buy out of those two without even looking at it.

    01 mondeo or 06 lacetti?

    Niether imo.

Those diesel mondeos were riddled with expensive DMF and injector issues were they not? wouldn't touch one unless offered a good warranty on it. and just no to the lacetti, very cheap car.

looks like you want an estate for 2500 ish.

    a bit stereotypical mundane but

or some very lovely petrol estates in your budget

C'mon man surely you can see it's the Sport model? It has no hubcaps making it lighter and therefore faster... Sounds sporty to me...

    :pac:

True. Thanks. The volvo t70 would be great except for the 960/pa car tax.

The mileage on the skoda seems a lot to me.
The Saab looks good though. I'll check it out. Thanks all.

i was just using examples, saying to shop around, your 2500 will go surprisingly far towards a nice estate.

Jesus that rover is lovely, very handsome car in the facelift too. i wouldn't hesitate. was it just rumour or did the facelifted cars come with the landrover gasket upgrade as standard because that is that cars only potential stumbling block really.

Thanks for your help folks. I got myself a nice 2000 Mercedes C180 for €1,700. Very pleased with it. Thanks again.

A 01 Mondeo wouldn't have injector issues as it's not common rail, granted it could have DMF issues though (as do all modern diesels, unfortunately), at least with five speed Mondeos you can fit a proper flywheel to them if the DMF goes:)!
