SIM card not recognised...

    Hi all!
My daughter's phone (LG Cookie) is just back from repairs, it got a new display screen and they updated software I think.
She inserted the SIM card she had taken out back in and it doesn't seem to be read at all, all her numbers are not showing, her emails etc. This is going on for two days.
The weather is so bad we are not going to walk to town etc...to get it checked out.
Has anybody any ideas what we should do?
We did try to switch off and on again, removing the card, all of this. Could it be they've put in Software that does not read her SIM?
    Thanks in advance!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that data is GONE.

The sim nowadays does nothing but talk to the network, its got too little storage to be of use. Texts and emails are stored purely on the phones internal memory. When they updated it this was wiped.

If she signed into google and sync'd her contacts then they are safe at contacts.google.com and by syncing again she can get them back. Rest is gone for good.

You mean to say all her contacts for the last two years are lost? We were never advised of this when they took the SIM card out and gave it to her. What was the point of having it then?
I'm a teacher and know that teens always want their SIM card when we confiscate their phone so they can use another phone. What is that about then?
The photos and texts are not as important, but we should have been informed of this by them at the time!

If she has an SD Card(little black card like a sim size) then the photos could be on there.

Repairers normally make you sign a page that clearly states that they arent responsible for the data loss and that data probably will be lost. If you used one of those chinese phone shops well, they wouldnt always be as "formal".

The point of having the sim is to use in another phone in the interim(most people have an old dumbphone lying around for such a time).

There is a chance that some/all of the contacts are still on the sim(it can only hold ~200 pieces of data so sometimes one contact can take 4 "slots") but NORMALLY these would import by default. In case they didnt, go to contacts, hit the menu button, import contacts, import from sim. If you're lucky something will be restored.

Next thing to try, connect to wifi. Go to settings, accounts and sync, add account, google, sign into her gmail(she has to have one to have used apps, even if she doesnt remember setting it up). When this is done you'll see the account listed, click on it then click sync now at the bottom. Wait 5 mins while it does this, then check contacts again.

If these two dont work you're out of luck.

    Fingers crossed,
    ED E.
