Cork Airport - will I make my flight?

    Hi,
I live in Galway and am thinking of booking the 18:15 flight from Cork to Reus.

The citylink bus is scheduled to arrive at Cork Airport at 17:40.

I dont have bags to drop or anything so will just head straight for the gate.

I've never been to Cork Airport before, or used that bus service, so if anyone has any suggestions on

    a) reliability of bus arrival time
    and
    b) if i can physically walk from the bus stop to the gate in the time, bearing in mind the gate probably shuts 20 mins before the flight - so thats 15 mins after the bus is scheduled to arrive)

    I'd appreciate that.

    Thanks!

Your cutting way too tight if you don't have a back up plan. Any queues in security will deffo scupper your plans. Besta luck!

TBH I seriously doubt it. There is no time allowed in that tight schedule to get through security.

Oh Ok, thanks for the replies - i'm glad I asked and didnt just try and wing it!

I was imagining that Cork was a bit more like Knock airport, security queue in my experience is never more than a couple of people!

How I wish they hadn't moved the Knock to "Barcelona" route up to Gerona from Reus :(

It is a bit tight. In an ideal world where the bus is on time and there is no queue for security you would easily make it. As Cork airport is small and you can easily walk from the bus stop to the gate in five minutes.

However traffic is unpredictable and it is peak holiday time so security will be busy.

Remember, bus time are always late in this country by about 20 minutes :pac:

    Check out Bus Eireann here.

There is a bus that arrives at Cork Airport at 17:02.

Key in what day you plan on going and ring the Aer Lingus desk at the airport to see will that time be ok for boarding.

Just get the earlier bus, arriving three hours before a flight and having time to kill is lots better than not being in time :)

No way would I trust a bus to arrive where it's meant to be on a spin from Galway to Cork arriving at rush hour, that bus you mention is scheduled to be in PAtrick's Quay Cork City centre at 17.20, there to Cork airport in twenty mins I wouldn't be overly confident in to be honest.

No way would I chance it.

Not a hope, there is road work on the South Ring Road in Cork which could cause delays back to the Kinsale rd. roundabout and if I was doing the route I'd get the earlier bus and expect it be half an hour later to allow space. Security in Cork is usally quite but still I have often taken 10mins to get through it and you'd want to allow 15mins from getting off the bus to get to the gate.

If you've time to kill you could do worse than visit the Jack Lynch lounge upstairs. I think it's €25. You'll get free papers, drinks, snacks, wifi, etc. you could well spend that amusing yourself over 3 hours, and you'll find it very comfortable. Just an idea :)

Thanks for the advice. I think i'm going to have to settle for leaving from Dublin - was trying to avoid that cos the flights are much more expensive. But the bus service there is more regular and convenient, and from my experience pretty punctual.

If I got the Bus Eireann service that gets me to Cork at 17.02 that means 4 hours on a bus with 2 changes.

If I got the earlier Citylink service that would mean leaving at 11.30am for a 18.15 flight.

My sanity can't cope with that! Originally being from the south east of england is my biggest obstacle, Heathrow 20 mins, gatwick and luton 40 mins, and stansted 1hr at a push. I'm not slating the west and can totally see the differences in terms of demographics, but its gonna take ME a long time to adjust myself to the fact that sometimes it takes longer to get to the airport to catch my flight, than the flight itself, and if I were to leave from Cork maybe even take a day off work just to get to the airport :S

The original idea was that i'd just bunk off work early at 14.30 and get the Citylink service, but with the mention of roadworks and general punctuality, you've set me straight.

    I appreciate it.

It may be an idea to look at charter flight only. Monarch fly from SNN weekly from €340 return for an adult including 20kg of baggage. It look like its expensive but consider costs getting to Dublin/Cork etc.

Have a look at Thomas Cook Ireland website.
