Laptop Not Charging

I have a Toshiba Satellite L450-137 that won't charge properly.

I thought it was the power adapter malfunctioning so I bought a new one but I'm still having the same problem.

The problem is that I have to constantly twist the charger around in the power jack to get power to the laptop, but then the power cuts out so I've to twist it around again and again to get power to the battery. It's a pain in the ****!

Anyway I was just wondering if anybody has had a similar issue and how did they resolve it?

I had the same problem with a C650 and replaced the power jack then all was fine.

By the look of the power jack you don't have to solder it in which is good.

    Ah that's great news!

I was actually worried about soldering it as I didn't want to cause any further damage.

    Thanks!

Believe it or not I'm only getting around to fixing this now.

I've hit a major obstacle, the four pins on the end of the DC power jack were soldered to the motherboard. I got the two end pins out with a needle nose pliers easy enough but the middle two aren't budging and it looks like I'm going to have to drill them out.

I was just wondering is their a drill bit small enough to remove the solder without destroying the connections?

By the way I tried to melt them out with a solder iron but I had no joy.

Okay I've installed a brand new DC power jack but I'm having the very same problems all over again.

Basically I start up my laptop and it powers off whilst booting or after if has booted up. The green DC power light comes on when I plug it in and the orange battery light comes on, sometimes it flashes, sometimes it's static.

I've also noticed that the lights go on and off depending which way a twist the power adapter into the DC jack socket. So it I plug in the power adapter and no lights come on I need to twist it around until I see signs of life.

Does anybody have any solutions to fix this problem?

So it's getting power and the lights are coming on but it cuts out sporadically?

So you have a new DC power jack installed so it's obviously not that. Does it run straight from AC power with the battery out?

It could be an issue with the motherboard or processor and either of them could have been subjected to a power surge.

I'm not 100% though, maybe a more experienced poster might be able to help you?

It gets power and all of the lights come on when it's plugged in at certain angles, but if I twist the plug around the DC jack or move the laptop then it cuts out. It also cuts out by it's self if it's on for an extended period of time without being touched.

I have tried it with no battery, running directly from the mains, but again if I pick the laptop up or twist the plug in the DC jack then it cuts out.

Another thing that I've noticed is that the battery is constantly at 0% and doesn't seem to charge off the mains. It never stays on long enough to really test it but if it's plugged in for say 10 minutes then the battery still stays at 0%.

    It has me completely flummoxed.
