    Hi,

Long time reader, first time poster:D

Anyone got experience of using Ardlea Dan for Pedigree or commercial breeding. Thinking on using him on 2 second calvers.

    Hey mac

Have 2 pedigree second calver's due to Calve to him beginning of august, from what I know and have heard, calves are very leggy when born but go on to grow & flesh up very well. At least I hope that's the case!

had 3 calves off ADX in april from commercial second calvers, (a lim x, a simm x and a char x) all calved unassisted and calves started to get very shapey at the 2 month mark, growing on well and muscular.

    very happy with ADX :)
will be using him again in future

Anyone calf down Ardlea Dan (ADX) heifers yet? Just wondering what they are like for milk?

No help I'm afraid, I've used him 4 times, 4 bulls. Produces nice cattle.

    Hi,
I have used Ardlea Dan on most of my Lim cows this year for the first time - was highly recommended and an AI catalogue from 2013 rated him highly for maternal. I always aim for high milk value so I can keep on my best heifers.

Just noticed latest figures for ADX showing very very poor milk values (as well as other traits dropped in value since 2013). Has anyone had ADX heifers? Any milk problems? Am a bit gutted that none of next year's calves might be suitable to keep on, unless from a very milky cow :-(

    Thanks!

stand around I think some people on here have calved ADX heifers they will be able to tell you weather or not they have any milk, have two heifers off him myself was wondering weather to bull them or sell them

The pictures and feedback don't lie.

Ardlea Dan in my estimation , is in the top 10% percent of LM breeding nationally.
Furthermore, is representation in Europe has grown a considerable rate.

On the commercial side, his calves give height, and width, where weight gain is easily obtained.

If you can cross ADX, with a milky cow you should have no problems.

However, there is no such thing as a perfect animal.

I have used ADX a lot. Have only one heifer calved and she has very little milk. Shame really as he is a great bull. He does breed very consistently. All his offspring look the same, very square and stylish. Heifers have square shaped hips too. I've also noticed that his offspring seem to stop growing earlier than most limousins even though they grow well.
The ideal cow to use him on would be tallish with plenty of milk.
Here's a commercial ADX heifer frim a NIN cow.

Have 3 calved milk not a problem on any of them. 2 of them will make great cows. 3rd one who happens to be pedigree is a bit butty.

Thanks for the replies guys. Mine will be from nice shapey well bred limousins with 'ok' milk... so am not overly optimistic about getting great cow makers from ADX.
