Whats even funnier is the fact that the tax payer paid a person to investigate this.
The signs of the country been screwed up where there even in the 90's!

You are correct, this is Ireland, where we have alot still to learn especially when it comes to common sense.

Chances are some civil servant picked it up and followed the rule book by the word, costs are not really considered when it comes to civil servants and their ability to avoid decision making and accountability.

Of course what should have happened was the plane should have been put into the Airport Police office. Then they should have rung around these model plane clubs to see who is missing a plane or advertise it, I am sure the media would have carried the story for free anyway. Then when the owner turned up just give him a bollocking....simple.

Typical of the self important attitude of the public service in this country . Like most parts of it, they are mickey mouse operators

It would be useful to copy clauses 3.3 & 3.4 from the report and to note that this model had a 10ft wingspan, nearly 6 ft long and weighed nearly 7kg

It would have been OTT , to have an air accident Investigation if the plane landed in a field... But it landed on a taxi-way -after flying through controlled air space to get there...they don't like F ing sea gulls near the airport let alone an uncontrolled massive model...

    Hi all,
having had a near-miss from a large-scale RC model aircraft, whilst flying a Cessna myself, I agree entirely that they should investigate. It is absolutely no fun at all to see one appear nearby, especially when you consider how much they weigh and how fast they are. Big RC models often weigh more than the birds that cause so much damage to airliners, as well as having fuel and solid metal parts aboard. They have also investigated inadvertantly-strayed model rockets and stray advertising balloons that have conflicted with aircraft at Dublin Airport.Try and understand how dangerous these models are to aircraft before you sneer the people who have to investigate them.

In the states* the airport would be shutdown , and a bomb disposal team called in and a squadron of f14s scrambled.

Chances are it was made in China too. A Spy Plane perhaps? Terror Alert to Orange?

There are some right tools posting comments in this thread. If their only contribution is to slag off the AAIU and civil service then they are in fact the ones with the problem.

As has been said, this was a pretty lethal object had it come in contact with another aircraft. Helicopters use that very route a lot, plus light aircraft use the Liffey route to Weston to the south of the Pheonix Park site, so it is definitely in everyone's interest that they investigate it and prevent such occurences in the future.

The ignorance shown by some here knows no bounds.

If I was the airport manager I would have fired it into the nearest skip and said no more!

A bit of cop on goes along way. One thing I cant stand is public money been spent on utter crap

@jesus nut and the other doubters, any airport manager who did that would be fired on the spot. My incident happened in the US, when a large scale (span of 6-8 feet) RC Pitts Special appeared in the circuit, doing aerobatics. I was in one of four aircraft in the circuit and I called it in to the tower, as did a second aircraft. I initially thought it was a genuine aircraft, as it appeared lifelike to me, and it appeared up from below, going vertically at high speed and performed a loop. I turned out of the circuit, as did the aircraft behind me and the model did two more loops that I saw and then flew out of the circuit. After a few minutes, I rejoined and landed and heard a cop car going to the scene. The owner of the FBO and the ATC guy had called the cops, who arrested the owner of the RC Pitts, who believed that he had been well clear of the circuit. It gave all of us who saw it a good fright.
