Hi everyone! After a few very tough jobs since graduating, spells on the dole, numerous interviews, getting to offer stage with a few companies, Im finally after getting something that is linked to my degree so Im delighted :D

The pay could be better but Im not gonna even dream of complaining :D

Anyway, I signed my contract and Im starting the 28th June.

Now re salary, it says 'salary will be paid monthly in arrears on 25th of each month.....You will be paid one month in arrears to your designated ac....'

Does this mean I wont be paid until 25th August?
Or that I will be paid on 25th July for the month I have worked?
Or that I will just be paid for the two days of June that Im working on 25th July?

Now, I know it's silly asking here but Im REALLY broke and don't want to ask HR before I even start but need to sort out my finances at the same time and try borrow some money from the parents (Im pretty sure no bank would go near me!) if Im not going to be paid for 8 weeks?

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated :D

I'm pretty sure that would mean you'd get paid 25h July...

You should be paid on 25th July, though probably only for the time you have worked, 28th June until 25th July, so a few days short of a full months pay.

It's not easy at times having to wait a month to be paid, especially when you have the expense of getting to work, but c'est la vie :)

You'll have to work a month in hand, so your first paycheck will be after your second months work.

from my experience as someone who's paid monthly i'd imagine you'll be paid at the end of July.
    Good luck with the job

I would reckon you will get paid for the few days of June on July 25 and July on 25 Aug.

I presume you'll get paid at the end of July. In my case, when I worked a few days at the end of the month, I got paid those few days about a week into the next month.

i think you will be paid a months salary (maybe missing a day or two ) on July 25th

I used to work in payroll and I think they'll pay you on 25th July. Just make sure you hand in your p45 and bank details to the payroll clerk asap.

You'd be surprised at the amount of people that take their time to give you their info (sometimes not handing it in until the day before payday) and then complain because they're not paid on time. If you hand in your detail too late, then they are not going to have enough time to set you up on the payroll system in time for payday so you won't get paid until the following month.

Surely not having a P45 would only mean paying emergency tax.

It's more than acceptable to ask HR: it shows that you are are an intelligent person who plans ahead and wants to know how things work.

    Just call them and ask.

As someone said, take your bank details and P45 if you have one on the first day.

Also on the first day, get their employer registration number and call Revenue and tell them that you've started (don't do this before you start, just in case something goes wrong). Your employer might say that they'll organise all the Revenue stuff for you - but call anyway, it helps to make sure that the details are right.

Again you'd be surprised at the amount of people that don't know their PPS number and how often people hand you a piece of paper with a PPS no scribbled down on it and it's the WRONG one! Sometimes the number they give you belongs to another person (their husband, wife, or parents, etc) or else it's just completely wrong or missing numbers.

Depending on whatever payroll system the company use - I've worked for a lot of companies that use their own software specifically designed for their company and if you enter a wrong PPS no on some of these systems it can be a f**king nightmare to sort out. When I worked in payroll, I got into the habit of not accepting a PPS number unless it was on an official document like a p45 or p60 or on a social welfare card, and I'm sure many other payroll people do the same.

I would say you will get your back pay for June and July salary on July 25th.

    Hi,

The company I work for pay monthly in arrears on 25th of each month. But we get paid until the end of the month. I started on the 25th July last year. Obviously didnt get paid that day, but on 25th August I got paid a months pay + extra week from 25th July until 1st August. Therefore youy will definitely get paid on 25th July and may possibly get a couple day extra :). I am starting with a new company in couple months and have the same problem again! Good luck with the job

Thank you guys this helped a lot. They should ban monthly salaries, lol. Two weeks would be my limit but I need a job and they need me hahaha.

From my experience most salary jobs are monthly paid.

I've been salaried for the last 9 or so years in 4 companies. I've always been paid weekly bar one of them which was monthly.
