This is really annoying me! as i'm trying to watch the football & watch shows up is 'no satellite signal is being received' at times when it gets really bad.

Have rang up sky & put me through the usual scenario, have to send an engineer out & may cost you E100, not before going thru the steps of disconnecting the cables at back of box.

What is showing when you look at Settings -> Signal:
Input 1 Signal Strength 60% (approx)
Input 1 Signal Quality 90% (approx)

Input 2 Signal Strength 30% (approx)
Input 2 Signal Quality 60% (approx)

    What can i do differently?

Btw: when you screw the sat cables back, the one on the right is harder to screw back on, but i was told that is not a bother?

    Thanks.

Could be a problem with the dish/lnb or maybe bad weather.

Exact same problem here. I have the Engineer coming from SKY tomorrow.
It kills me to pay €100 but it appears it is the only way it will get sorted.

Will post how I get on

Im certainly no expert on these things apart from picking up tips here on the forum and dealing with a couple of problems myself but your problem could lie in a couple of places.

Some of the more "qualified" guys here will advise you better but I would be looking at the connections at the back of the box first of all. Maybe take them out and swap the cables around.

Id also swap the boxes to see if there are still problems - just make sure you keep the cards in their respective boxes. That way will give you an idea if its the box or the lead/connections/dish.

It seems to be no problem now!
As i'm watching Sky Arts1 HD as the Isle of Wight festival's on

Had a look at the settings:

Input 1 Signal Strength 40-50% (approx)
Input 1 Signal Quality 90% (approx)

    Input 2 Signal Strength 00%
Input 2 Signal Quality 80% (approx)

Which may make sense to someone, but just seems stranger when the Input 2 SS shows nothing?

Thanks I'll try that out in the morning, when no-one's watching the other box or there'll be a fight:D

Meant to say, i was surprised i got an Engineer out a while back due to the same thing!
It was only on E4 & other Ch4 related stations & sadly still does, He tried out the cables, found nothing so he changed the dish, still the same thing, so he left as he says he couldnt do any more!?

Let us know how u get on.

Only Channel 4? If you have a dect phone, plug it out and see if the problem goes away.

    Hi

Just to let you know engineer called at 10am. I couldnt get any Sky sports or anything working (it was a dry morning)He tested the signal on the box(very low) and said it was a problem with dish. He spent 10/15 mins adjusting dish. Then came in and explained that whoever put up the dish originally had not alligned it properly. When I got the new HD box 12 months ago he said someone should have looked at the dish then. He was confident this was nothing to do with the weather. As he was checking box again he mentioned that the sky remote was starting to jam (I said I could pick one up in power city) but in fairness he went out to his van and brought in a brand new one. He placed a sticker on it with a phone number should I have any issues to ring the number as this service had 30 day guaratee.

He was gone by 10.30 and all channels are working fine and signal very strong. Unhappy it cost me 100euro but happy with the service and result

Thanks for the tip, i'll remember that one.

The channels seem ok today, but it usually happens in bad weather on the sky+ in kitchen,
but strangely enough not when you tune into the same channel in 'other channels'?
I got a stonefaced answer when i asked sky about it , why did i bother?

Yeah, he probably didnt have to give u a new remote, but then maybe its covered in the service?
My Dish was badly rusted at the point the dish revolves & may have fallen off soon!

Thankfully that was done, but i'll try the tip given above, when the weather changes again, that should be anytime soon!

Generally the advice is if Sky quote 100 euro any installer will do the same for less direct. If you are out of your 1 year contract with Sky it is avisable to say you won't pay 100 but would rather leave. When transferred to the "customer loyalty" dept they will waive the fee but sign you up to another years contract.

Signal loss on some channels and not others generally means a rusty old dish that needs to be replaced.

Yeah i did that, that's how i got a call-out, regarding the sky+ it was a calm day but i showed him a recording of it, he had mentioned the phone, but its in the hallway!

But i was surprised to see a HD box getting that, but i've followed the advice given here

Its finally annoyed me for the last time, i' ve done what you've said above by swapping sky+ with the HD box & couldn't get a signal with the Sky+ box either so it must be the dish/cables?

But as i'm getting a reception with the sky+ in the kitchen, what could be wrong?

Thanks for any help for this.

You obviously have 4 cables coming from the dish so it could be water getting into the cables going to the HD box or perhaps a fault in the LNB.
