WiFi USB stick?

    My laptop's wifi receiver has died (it's quite old), I would like to buy a USB device that could pick up wifi networks in hotels etc, is there such a thing?

    Sorry if it's a numpty question but I know very little about this (as you might have guessed :o)
    Any advice appreciated.
