hi there I am 22 and think I would like to become an accountant as I have always liked accounting in school. i was thinking of doing a part time acca accounting technician course just to have something to my name and also to see if i like it. I was looking at this course http://www.ait.ie/aboutaitandathlone/courses/accaaccountingtechnicianyear1/
has anyone done this course and what did they think of it? Also regards the one year work experience - i am currently working full time at a large waste management business (over 300 employees) and get on my the management accountant here so If i done training with him while i was doing the course would this suffice as relevant work experience? All advice appreciated

    Have you looked at http://www.accountingtechniciansireland.ie/

The qualification is viewed very favorably by employers and offers a good grounding and enables further study i.e. ACCA Professional

As technician courses go, I think this one is more popular in Ireland with students and employers

You could also do the ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business. Most colleges offer it over 1 year, one evening a week from Sept - May, granted some offer it over a shorter period. This course would entitle you to the same quantity of exemptions (3 exemptions from the ACCA Qualification) as a 2 Year ACCA Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) course.

This diploma is part of the ACCA CAT course itself, the CAT course is now spilt into 4 interim qualifications:
    Introductory Certificate (2 papers)
    Intermediate Certificate (2 papers)
Diploma in Accounting and Business (3 papers + an online ethics module)
    Certified Accounting Technician (2 papers)

A student can enter onto the Diploma course without having completed the Intro or Inter cert.
