So the RSA confirmed for me today that as of the 19th of January next year you must be 24, not 21 years old to receive a cat D bus/coach license. Anyone know the reasoning behind this? How it will effect young guys already going through training and employment prospects?

It turns out if you plan on doing the CPC the limits won't change for you. Read through this document , it explains it all.

I turn 21 in december and am planning on going for the bus license immediately to make sure.

But as already noted, once you have embraced the ethos of the Driver Certificate of Professional Competency, you'll be good to go at 21 .

Ageism plain and simple. If you said black people/women/gays couldn't get a licence until X or because of X there'd be blue murder but age based discrimination still seems to be ok

its more so a scam to push everyone to do the CPC. that thing is an absolute money racket. fair enough it can teach you a bit but, 2 theory tests, a practical test and a 7 hour course every year. bit of an overkill.

Yes i've seen the rsa document since i posted this a few weeks back! Seems like a fair system in place. Besides the overly xpensive fees. Thanks for the contributions.
