Since everyone is broke at the moment, what's your favorite/the best cheap booze?

I'm gonna say Bavaria blue with an honorable mention for Macardle's Ale.

Tuborg. (nearly a euro a can)

    Perlenbacher. (six bottles for 6.50)

Also those Finkbrau pils (wee stubby bottles six for 4e) are surprisingly nice too!

    Tyskie
    1.69 for a 500ml bottle

Devils Bit 2l cider for around 4 euro or so

When Sierra Nevada was one euro a bottle in Tesco....now THAT was an awesome budget beer.

    :(

Not really 'cheap' if they're 2.50 each...even though I do like those deals.

ALDI. Brasserie. 4.49 for ten mini bottles.

    1.69 a bottle?!
    4 for a tenner?

Get out of that garden. That's not "cheap" booze!

Around a euro a can, 6/7 quid bottle of wine and less than €18 for spirits. That's cheap.

Tuborg for me. Used to have it on tap in a bar I worked in in Austria. Lovely stuff.

Oh and Newcatle brown is only €1.29 in Dunnes :D

1 euro a bottle, aldi do a very similar beer called staroslav for 1.19, they also do an even better what beer for 1.39 scofferhoff I think its called.

Draught Beamish, better than the food engineered Guinness IMO available locally for 3 euro a pint, and Fosters is no worse than any other fizzy phish on a hot day for the same price. Oh and best value of all cask conditioned real ales stg 1.70 a pint in Witherspoons..

Went from 6.29 to 6.49 for the 6x500ml bottles recently didn't it? The odd time they'd have it marked down to 4.29 for the 6, unbelievable value and it's so nice that the fact it isn't in a fridge barely counts against it. :pac:

€1.50 for Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Porterhouse beers in Tescos. Cheap and tastes great.

I think the 5 for €10 offer may still be on also in Tescos, some great beers available, good value considering what your getting.

Lifes too short to drink sh1t beer, don't care how cheap it is!

Some of them are 7%, all are great tasting so cheap compared to usual 2.99 - 3.50 price, you can't compare stuff of this quality to cans of Tuborg or expect it at those prices, also I picked up a couple of bottles of St. Peter's Organic Ale, a steal for 2 euro each in Superquinn today, lovely stuff.

Ah yeah, I'm not arguing with that. I'm just pointing out that my take on this thread would be the likes of nice drinks that are ~1e a bottle/can.

I do splurge and go for the 3.50 bottles of Sierra Nevada stuff sometimes but that's when I've just got paid and want to treat myself! :pac:

I suppose I'm a quality over quantity person but you'd have to admit the St. Peters for 2 notes a bottle is v good.

Bavaria 12 cans for 12 euro supervalu cant go wrong

I think people are confusing the word "cheap" with "good value"

    Cheap is cheap

Good value is more expensive, but worth it.

Maybe start a thread on good value beers?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 129 ✭✭Galia

    Tuborg
Made by Diagio . Does not taste cheap. well worth 1 euro a can.
Better than Carling in my opinion .

Cannot believe know one has mentioned stella artois yet can be got in most places for a euro a can also.

A grand cheap lock is two bottles of Outlander Australian white wine from Aldi for 4 euro each. It's 12% and is easily thrown back.

Absolutely adore Tyskie. Was gonna say it's not "cheap" but I suppose I'd have said 330ml bottles for a euro would fall into the "cheap" bracket so 1.5x the amount for 1.69x the price and infinitly nicer..... I'll let you away with it :D
and Fosters is no worse than any other fizzy phish on a hot day for the same price

I'd agree, Carlsberg, Bud etc on tap are absolute muck. Fosters is no better/worse but a LOT cheaper

Bollox, last time I was in label said ends 19/06. Have had 2 bottles now so can't get into the car and drop up for another 5 or 10

I'm of the same opinion (apart from the fosters comment above where the alternatives are beers equally as sh!t but more expensive). If money was an issue I think I'd rather drink less good beer than more crap beer.

In the Czech Republic, you can get 2l of various beers for, at most, 40kc (roughly 1.60 in euros). Sometimes they even have special discounts and you can get one for 25kc (a euro).

Back home, I'd always go for Tuborg. It was usually a euro a can. I'd also go for a naggin of Paddy's, which to my best recollection was about six or seven euros.

I Don't think its fair too say that Fosters or Carlsberg or Heineken for that matter are as bad as Budweiser which has no good points when it comes to flavour, body or colour. There are others beers as bad but Budweiser by instance of its ubiquity is the absolute zero of beers. On a scale up to 100, I would put Carlsberg at B+4 and Fosters and Heineken at B+7.

I recommend Asda brand vodka, £14 a litre clean and neutral yet sippable neat from the freezer, also the packaging hints enough towards 'premium vodka' to keep the uniformed happy.

Picked up 4 cans of Zywiec in tesco today for 5 euro which is great value imo:)..Without a doubt though, my fav cheap booze has to be Tyskie and to be honest i would pay a lot more..slainte:D

It was the Tescos in Longford. Shelf label states 4 x 500ml cans for €1.99. It took a little bit of negotiating and a trip back to the aisle but got them at that price in the end!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,723 ✭✭✭nice_very

karpackie selling 8 cans for 8.99 in centra lately, might be 7,99 cant remember, though they have put up the price of their 8pack of bud to 12 euro, was 10 there a couple weeks ago.

Karpackie, at 5% I find quite drinkable, especially after a few in the pub, otherwise it has to be really cold.

I must state I am a Guinness man myself, though my pockets are not very deep.

Meant to mention hobgoblin ale is in aldi for 1.80. Delicious, was 2.50 not so long ago in the 'craft beer' section of many off-licences.

Currently residing in Germany, so I am spoilt. The go-to cheap beer here is Sternberg, at €0.36 for a 500ml bottle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 492 ✭✭daniels.ducks

Galahad 12 for €8 (not the best but cheap as nettles which is why it is one of my favourites), alright with a bit of lime. Stella 99c a can (only ever had it once and enjoyed it). Tuborg seems to be winning this thread must try it. Actually I had tiger beer in bottles, quite dry but i enjoyed it 10 bottles for €12.

    As cider goes Druids>Linden>Orchards>Rosies Dew.

I live in Seoul now and one of things I miss from home is Aldi's Staroslav beer. Unbelievably nice.

And at 1.19 per 500ml bottle it's unbelievable value.

Korbinian on draught in The Abbot's, Cork.
€2-half pint, €4-pint, €6 Litre for this dark, strong, delicious beer.

Hackenberg, 4 for 5€ in most establishments, its a nice refreshing Pils.

In my local Mace in Kilmeaden they have cans of Estrella for 1€ which is exceptional value

Rossini in Aldi is top notch and only 1.69 for a fat 660ml bottle, as is there wheat beer schavverover or something like that, it has an orage label, breda royla in aldi is nice 1.29

I made a discovery last night in Dunnes of a beer called Kaiserdom, 6 500ml bottles for 7€ or a 1litre can for 2.93€, pure novelty with the big can -
