    Hey everyone
I've got an 01 opel, the steering has recently become really heavy, it's like it has no power steering anymore, but the odd thing is, it has power steering fluid in it, and it's just been serviced, it's becoming a battle getting around corners so does anyone have any ideas what it might be?

I'm no mechanic but it sounds to me like your pump is fooked. Start ringing around breaker yards

Ahhhh ****e :( does it cost much? or could you give me a rough estimate?

Which Astra do you have? if it's the petrol version then it has an electrical power steering pump instead of the typical belt driven one you'd see in most cars. Are you seeing any electrical issues like low battery voltage or the battery not charging? If the alternator is not producing enough power then I think it shuts down the power steering to conserve electricity. Mine used to occasionally have no PS for a second or 2 after start up...

yep its the petrol one, there's no warning lights on or nothing, it seems to come and go if you get me?

If you need a new rack needed then you might be best off getting a reconditioned one from this crowd on the long mile road. They are generally priced competitively and are a better option than getting one second hand.
