First year WHV visa has run out but I have still haven't heard about 2nd WHV.

I applied online for 2nd whv a week before my 1st whv ran out.

Haven't heard about second working holiday visa yet.

AM I automatically put on a bridging visa?

Afraid you may have left it too late there.

Always recommend people to get the Farm/Agriculture work out of the way on the 1st 3-4 months of their 1st visa. At the latest I would leave 2 months left on my 1st visa to apply for 2nd year.

    No you are illegal now

You may want to ring the DIAC and just enquire as to the status of your application if your farmwork is done chances are you will get it

You can of course request an extension in these circumstances.

All they can say is no, no worse of than you are now.

Regional work is done and dusted. All it says on the immigration website is that you should apply for your second year visa before first one runs out.

Ring the DIAC is the best advice. If you are illegal they may grant you to stay. If you overstay without a visa it could effect your visa status.

I don't know the ins and outs and perhaps every visa is different but this happened a friend of mine and she was fine.

She applied and heard nothing, 1st visa ran out and she couldn't contact them as it was a long weekend. She rang first thing on Tuesday and they said it was being processed, that she was on a bridging visa and that it would be backdated as soon as it was granted.

So long as you have the work done and it can be verified, it should be ok.

If your current visa expires while you have a application processing then you get a bridging visa automatically.

Really I did not know that.

So if one is on a WHV then applies for a On shore visa they automatically get a bridging Visa.

So if you are a WHV apply for skilled migration you can stay and work till it comes though or is rejected? Because that can take a while ?

Do you have a link to that mate? Sorry I suddenly have doubts there must be limitations like?

I'm pretty sure Mellor's right here.

Once you apply for the 2nd WHV you are automatically put onto a bridging visa until your application has an answer.

While on the bridging visa you are subject to all the same constraints that are applied to your 'old' visa

What is the normal time frame for 2nd WHV processing?

Yeah thats pretty much it. Skilled migration doesn't work as its generally off-shore. But if it was one of the options that are on shore (graduate, regional etc) then I imagine it would.

I've been on a bridiging visa with both my 2nd WHV and my 457 applications. Both were automatic.

A bridging visa is a temporary visa that provides for a non-citizen
to remain lawful in certain circumstances where they do not
hold a substantive visa. The circumstances in which a bridging
visa may be granted include where a non-citizen:
has made an application for a substantive visa which has not
    been decided
    ;
    .....

    ...
    Application
The requirements for the making of an application for a bridging
visa will depend upon the circumstances in which the bridging
    visa is being sought.

    Substantive visa application
A valid application for a substantive visa which is made in
Australia will generally also be an application for a bridging visa.
If an application for a substantive visa is made on a form which
is also an authorised form for the making of a bridging visa
application, it will be unnecessary to make a separate bridging
    visa application.

Bridging visas – the 5 classes
Bridging visa A: for applicants who hold a substantive visa
when they apply for another substantive visa.
The Bridging visa A granted when an applicant applies for a
substantive visa generally has the same work conditions as the
    substantive visa the applicant holds.
An applicant who holds a Bridging visa A with work restrictions
can be granted unlimited permission to work in certain
circumstances – see Permission to work on page 2.

Can vary from immediately to up to 4 weeks. In my friends case, they couldn't get in contact with the farmer who had signed off to verify. (He was on holidays).

In this instance it wasn't her fault, yet Immi had to give her the benefit of the doubt until they could verify it.
