Move iPhoto Library between MacBooks

    Hi,

I have a new MacBook Air and I'm looking for some advice on the best way to transfer my iPhoto Library from my old MacBook. The library is 41GB.

I currently have the iPhoto Library backed up on my Time Capsule but this new MacBook Air can't seem to see the backup from the other MacBook.

Any suggestions on the best way to transfer the file?

Try option-clicking the TM menu in the menubar > Browse other backup disks.

TBH, though, it would probably be quicker to just manually copy the library to an external hd, then connect it to the new Mac and transfer it over.

Of course. How did I not think of just copying it to an external HDD?

    Why use an external drive?

Just enable file sharing on your old MacBook and then connect to it from the new one. Plenty of guides online if you need help. Will be much faster. I recommend you use a wired Ethernet connection for both MacBooks.

Once you have the iPhoto library file copied over I think you need to hold option (alt) then click iPhoto app and you care given a dialog to browse for library file. Although of you copy the file to the same default location for iPhoto then this may not be required.
