    Hi all,

I have recently become very interested in the irish glen of imaal terriers and am really keen to bring one into my home!

Could anyone help me find some contacts for breeders around the country, I am based in Cork but would be willing to travel pretty much anywhere in the country to get one, I am that keen :)

I have already been in contact with the irish kennel club and tried to get a list of breeders from that source but not much joy, but the glens seem to be very hard to come by in general.

    Any help appreciated.

I can't help you with contacts of breeders but I saw one of these dogs for the first time a couple of weeks ago at the IKC obedience training in Swords, they are fab looking dogs. :)

The training is on every Tuesday evening 7-9pm, you could meet owners there that could point you in the right direction.

edit: just noticed your username, Swords may not be that local to you! :)

    Hey there,

You didn't mention if your were possibly interested in adopting or not so I just said I throw this up just in case. Best of luck finding your Glen :)

    Thanks for the replys!

I have already contacted the breed club and haven't had any joy with contacts there, as I said they seem very hard to come by and I am really really keen to get one at this stage, have been looking for a while now!

I was kind of hoping that someone would know someone who has them\breeds them that they could put me in touch.

Ideally I am looking for a male pup, this is the first dog that we would have so we would like to have one from the start :)

    Thanks

Just a little note, they are a difficult dog for a first time owner and the majority are not so good with other dogs thus one of the reasons I feel they are quite rare. So just be sure to socialise your glen of imaal as much as possible.

Stay away from donedeal if you know whats good for you. full of puppy farmers and back yard breeders.

There are few dogs shows coming up that are all breed shows that glens might be shown at if you wanted to go to them. There a show in limerick on the 21 or 23 of August and there all breed show on in castleisland in Kerry on the 25th of August

The ones I've seen on DoneDeal are rescue dogs, they say. Although I have often wondered how they manage to rescue a breed that's so hard to come by normally.

If you do manage to get your hands on one Acorkonian, let me know how you get on because I'm interested in getting one too. The only thing putting me off is I've never met a Glen so I don't know what they're like personality-wise. I've also heard that they eat as much as a Great Dane but I'm not sure if that's true or not!!!

They do occasionally come into rescue, the one I volunteer for has had 2 in the last 12 months but unfortunately no homes could be found for them in Ireland so they got homed abroad.
