Worst Golf Formats!

Just played 9 hole, 4 man scramble comp at my local course. Only found out when i got there it was a strange format where, the person who plays the best shot (i.e) the ball chosen to be played, does not get to play the following shot!!
Found this to be a terrible format to play, and one i wont be playing again.
It feels like you are being punished for hitting a good shot!
So was wondering if anybody feels there is a worse format they have played, as i feel it cant come much worse than this one !!
And in the p***ing rain to boot :(

I played many a scramble but not that format. Sounds daft to me to be honest, think I'd rather play a round of crazy golf:eek:

Personally I hate foresomes format and can't understand why so much of the interclub competitions are such. It takes so much away from the game especially given the time commitment involved with practice matches and competition rounds.
I'd agree the scramble format you outlined above is also very poor, you're there to play golf and not walk the course and watch others.

That's exactly how it felt - The more good shots you play , the less golf you can play !
    Ridiculous !!

+1 on Foursomes, it's a brutal format, I think the GUI prefer it for the national competitions because it's perceived to be faster than a fourball.

Thanks for the reply. I only asked as my club has a similar summer social meet new people evening every Thursday and what you described is the main reason I have avoided ours!

Biggest laugh I ever had on a golf course was a foursomes day. Two mates were spraying the ball off the tee all day and leaving each other in the worst of positions.

Player A pushes his drive under a tree on the 17th tee. As they were walking up to the ball Player A says to his partner "good luck getting that out of there". Player B takes out a 7-iron and gently taps it 3 feet further under the tree. Comes out and replies "You put it there, you get the **** thing out".

Hilarious, besides that I hated the day.

Forget pre-marraige courses and guidance counselling. All you need to know about the strength of a partnership can be learnt playing mixed foursomes with your husband/wife.

I remember one particularly trying round with Mrs M, where after a bad start she asked some inane question like 'Should I use a driver or sand wedge from here?' and I replied 'Oh, just hit the f**king thing!' Boy, did I pay for that .....

Foursomes is hard going. I find it very stop start. You hit a good shot & then you cant hit the next one. I find it hard to get in a rhythm with it

played a reverse scramble where you play from the worst position instead of the best. good crack but once was enough

I personally think foursomes is a good format, it's a real test of golf. It's like the strokes version of team matchplay.

Played behind a society who were playing a 'green' ? ball scramble.
If you lost the GREEN ball you were out of the competition.Absolute
mayhem on the course.People jumping over walls looking for lost balls etc.
Needless to say left the course in disgust.

so, lets say u are on a par 3, 3 of u hit it inside 10 feet, the 4th guy slices it out of bounds, all 4 of you have to play again from the tee box !!!!!, madness.

the reverse scramble is normally played as a 2 man scramble and is a good laugh playing against the other 2 in your group. i wouldnt reccommend it as your weekly outing
